Down to 10 against Bosnia and Bosnia have just equalised. They're really struggling to qualify now

Won`t be quite the same without the Italians, as poor as they currently are.

Love Italy and pizza.
I think we have less chance against an Italy with 11 players than Bosnia.

Must admit, I`ve never been the greatest fan of the Italian football team - bunch of moaners who make a meal of any tough tackle they receive. Could actually appreciate them a lot more if they cut the nonsense, showed a bit of stoicism and just played with the ability they quite obviously have!

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth across La Bella Italia this morning - worst result since humiliation of 1966 ?

I feel a bit for the Italians.
I`m not a fan of the playoff structure - even though Scotland have benefitted from it. Home advantage is such a massive thing in a `one-off` game, and it seems to be awarded somewhat arbitrarily (like I couldn`t tell you the rules for who gets home advantage).
I rather stick with a two-legged system for playoffs - I know there`s a slight advantage for the team at home in the second leg, but it`s much reduced. Of the 4 matches played last night, only one was won by the away team - Turkey sneaking a 1-0 in Kosovo.
In the semi-finals 5 out of 7 were won by the home team. I`m not counting Sweden`s `away` win v Ukraine, given that was played in Spain

Italy were at home to N Ireland in the first round of the play-offs so they had the advantage there.

Or the entire qualifying where Wales/Italy get 18/16 points and Sweden get 2 points but because they won PotC of nations league they got a playoff spot and took full advantage of it.

Hadn`t even considered (or indeed known that) - it doesn`t make any sense that a team who sucked in the actual qualifying gets a shot because they did ok in some parallel competition.

Maybe brings to light the new importance of the Nations League and gives nations that don’t normally qualify more options. It’s all against the same confederation anyway so cant say its a disadvantage.
