Referees get a lot of stick, some justifiable, some not, and I thought that last night overall Don Robertson did a reasonable job but can anyone explain why manhandling an opponent to prevent him from getting the ball or increasing your chances of getting the ball, is not a foul? The SJ no 4, Boyes, was a persistent offender in this regard and was never punished. On the other hand some of the most innocuous of contacts are penalised. I`m completely perplexed now as to what is allowed and disallowed by way of physical contact.

What about poking an opposing player in the face?

Agreed in general - inconsistency is the problem.
Robertson was getting it hard from the Norrie last night in a couple of incidents where it was really the linesman who should have been culpable of dereliction of duty.
Another big issue IMO is the nonsense in the penalty box at corners - players holding and grabbing etc.
I reckon it`s long overdue that football authorities took a serious look at the Laws to prevent these minor melees.
Maybe resticting the number of players in the penalty box and/or goal area ?
This aspect of the game has crept in over the years, back in the Middle Ages when I started following football there was none of this bear hugging and standing on top of the goalkeeper.

Also stj defenders were pushing pars forwards in the back, and it was allowed. One on tv was blatant 10ft in front of him no foul. I know forwards can lean into them, but last nights was awful, but was almost like ref had his plan upfront !!!!
