NL clearly wants the maximum number of fit and available players for the coming games. As all the leagues except the Premiership finish today, does anyone know if our loaned players are eligible for the play-offs and/or the Cup final?

No and it’s been discussed and explained more times than I care to remember you can only play for one club per registration period unless of course you do what we did when we signed Keith bray

You can recall players on `co-operation` loans as we did with Davidson last night.

That’s brilliant. Great to hear he’s been doing well and an EK win will see them promoted to league 1.

None of them are good enough, which is why they’re on loan to lower leagues.

Without the loan system there would be an awful lot of players not taking part in competitive football. It`s essential for the development of young players or, say, players recovering from injuries. Most full-time clubs benefit as loanees and as lenders.

That wasn’t the question in the original post, though. The question was, with all the loan players finished for the season, are any of them eligible to play in the cup final or the playoffs?
I think this team is more than good enough to compete in both without players who were out on loan at lower levels. I don’t think any of them are good enough to improve our squad for the run in.

Read the original post: it clearly asks whether our loan players are eligible for the playoffs or the Scottish Cup final? I answered the question that was asked, saying none of them are good enough to play at this level. Which of our players currently out on loan would get a game in this team right now?

---------------------------
In response to your OP I thought it worth checking, Citizen, so I googled -
`Can a Scottish Championship club recall loaned out players in order that they might take part in play-off matches?`
`No, a Scottish Championship club generally cannot recall a loaned-out player specifically to play in play-off matches if the recall takes place outside of a transfer window. Under SPFL rules, players must be registered with the club by 1 March of the current season to be eligible for that year`s Play-Off Competition.`
`However, for the 2025/26 season, new "Cooperation Agreements" allow for more flexible recalls of young players, and exceptions exist for goalkeepers.`
I presume the same regs apply re cup final. And all matches - including play-offs and cup final are part of the 2025/26 season.

Thanks, onandupthepars. I wondered if they were eligible considering their playing loans had essentially finished. Whether any of them would have been selected for the play-offs is another story, but surely a couple of them would have been handy to have on the bench. Anyway, it`s irrelevant now as you`ve answered my question.

It`s a fair point you`ve made Citizen - seeing as those players have no more matches to play for the teams they`ve been loaned to, it would seem logical to me that they could return to their parent clubs, such as ye Pars.

I`m sure we fell foul of the rules re loan players at the end of the 2011-12 season when we were fighting relegation from the SPL. We were short of centre backs and John Potter had been on loan at QOS. Their season had finished but we could not play Potts and ended up with Austin McCann at CB for a vital game at Easter Road. We lost 4-0 and were relegated.

Sorry but pretty much every young prospect that goes out on loan from a club goes down the leagues. They get better by gaining minutes in mens football and adjusting to the physicality that youth leagues can`t give them
John Tod, Andy Tod, Lucas Fyfe and Matty Todd have all had to go down this route and are all at varying degrees in around a good Pars first team now.

I THINK his point was that none of the players we currently have out on loan would improve our cup final chances.
I might be wrong.

I think it`s you that`s failing to comprehend the OP. They only asked if they were eligible.
The answer appears to be "no", so whether or not they are good enough right now to feature is a moot point.

Another one of our loaned out players is one of the Sutherland brothers ( appologies) for not remembering which one at Forfar who is doing really well and i think he may have received an award or 2 from the club for his contribution for them. And i am not suggesting anything but Forfar have their own playoffs to go after, so best wishes for him.
