Back 4 with Matty playing in centre mid ahead of Gilmour & Amade I think, we switched to a back 4 against Partick in the 2-2 game if I remember right, gives us an extra man in the middle

listening to the guys on BBC RADIOSCOTLAND on the way home, said it was a stone wall penalty and they were 50 yards away. Happy with the draw but the game could have swung a lot more in our favour if the referee was decent. Plastic whistle certainly know how to get away with the fouls and the referee is no where near an acceptable level. He’s either biased against us, blind or completely incompetent. I take it a different referee will be in charge on Friday?

One of our best performances of the season. PT are a decent side, with the obligatory `nasty` streak which we have yet to fully understand how to match. Some of our passing and build-up play was worthy of a higher league, and it would be great to see this on 23rd. Whether we`re out of the play-offs by then is a coin toss, but I like to think we might inflict a first home league defeat of the season on Thistle.
I`m in the Amade camp, his second half performance was magnificent. Not that the genius sitting behind me in the Norrie would have agreed. Why bother to attend if you want to spend most of the game verbally abusing anyone who makes the tiniest mistake?
Final word for NL, we are so lucky to have him.

I think Morrison deserves some credit tonight after a poor run. Started well and took his goal well which seemed to gee him up more. When he gets the ball, he puts defenders into a panic with his pace. Tonight was his best game for a while and hopefully there`s more to come in the coming weeks.
Thought overall we just lacked a bit of composure in front of goal and sometimes the final ball was lacking, but in the end, we`re still in it for the second leg.
We rode our luck last few minutes of the game, a mixture of great defending, great work by Ox, and pure fluke. But we survived.
Could`ve been better, but it certainly could`ve been a lot worse.
All to play for Friday and with some better luck and clinical finishing, we can win this.
Ref? A duffer.

Should be a good game Friday. Very little between the teams. Partick maybe a bit more comfortable in the final third but our defence and GK were excellent again.
I was losing the rag a bit at the space afforded to Oisin Smyth. He was able to just stroll out and there was no pressure on him.
Ref abysmal in the first half. He`s one that gives nothing in the first half of games then pulls up things that are objectively the same in the second half.

I can only think the SFA deliberately put this tube in charge to get a reaction from Lennon.
He was an utter clown not only for the penalty controversy but Kane and Tod were getting fouled time after time and nothing given.
To the game itself I’d say we lived dangerously at times especially last 5 minutes but second half was impressive.
We just didn’t pass it to death but actually ran at them and they weren’t liking that one bit.
Morrison had his best game in weeks and Kane was very good winning headers and holding the ball up.
Amade oozed class as well.

Cracking game I felt. Stonewall penalty, Gilmour and Amade and of course Ox were outstanding, defence likewise. To be honest, we were all really good.

In the end a draw tonight was fair, I thought we perhaps had the bulk of the chances, but the last five minutes were manic! For me, Gilmore and Amade were magnificent - Gilmore does the breaking up and driving forward really well, and some of Amade`s passing was sublime.
I think probably Thistle are now favourites, but whoever wins on Friday could well beat St Mirren in the final. Saints had a good win tonight, but only 29 goals in 37 matches shows where the problem is.

Really exciting game between two fairly evenly matched teams, on the night.
Apart from the last 5 minutes, I thought we were possibly the better side but weirdly we ended up hanging on.
Quite pleased we`re still well in this tie, if Thistle think it`s already "job done" then they clearly haven`t been paying attention to what we`ve been up to the last few weeks.

Thought Amade was superb. A tough game but definitely one we should have won, nothing to fear going into Friday. Win and we’ve got every chance of going up, lose and we get a well earned rest ahead of the final next week.
As much as I’d like to see us go up, I think next season could be a great one for us looking at who else will be in the division, a real chance of winning the league if we replace the players leaving with the same quality of signings as Gilmour, Abdulai and Amade.

We could do with an experienced head at the back. In the last two games, we’ve come up against Ashcroft and O’Brien, who were physical and nullified Andy Tod with fouls, knowing the referee wasn’t going to punish them for it.
I thought we were good value last night, with Amade and Gilmour putting in solid performances in the middle of the park. Ox would be worth looking at bringing in permanently, as he has made a real difference since joining the club.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

I thought we were a bit tense in the game. A few too many stray passes that put us under unnecessary pressure at times. At important times in the game in front of goal we lacked a bit of composure when we got into good positions. Its a bit like golf, ie keep your eye on the ball when you take the shot. We thought we didnt win the game because of ourselves not because Partick were better than us. We are a better side than them. When the team go out on Friday they just need to believe it.

Both teams evenly matched in my opinion. We have absolutely nothing to fear going into Fridays game.
Ox was my MoM as once again his two superb saves kept it at 1:1
Would like to see Morrison run at the defence more on Friday. He has the pace 🙏
I predict a close match on Friday but expect end-to-end stuff. We just need to keep it tight at the back, keep wayward passes to a minimum and take our chances 🙏

Felt like overall we were the better team on the night however it was very even. Abdulai was a big miss but Lennon got his tactics right.
Also felt like we made a couple of individual errors that let thistle off the hook a couple of times. Bad touches, mis kicks, ball watching.
The referee 🤦🏻♂️ shocking. I think thistle fans would be saying the same but Ashcroft basically had free rein to do what he wanted including playing rugby instead of football. The penalty 🤷🏻♂️
The big Ox tho… proper goalie.

Superb game 👊
Both teams evenly matched in my opinion. We have absolutely nothing to fear going into Fridays game.
Ox was my MoM as once again his two superb saves kept it at 1:1
Would like to see Morrison run at the defence more on Friday. He has the pace 🙏
I predict a close match on Friday but expect end-to-end stuff. We just need to keep it tight at the back, keep wayward passes to a minimum and take our chances 🙏
The comment on Morrison was our view also
We thought we played too much into Ashcrofts strengths at times. If we keep the ball down and run at them, they are vulnerable defensively. We did well going down wide areas but felt had we gone through the middle at times we could have created more. Ashcroft is good on the air, but poor with his feet and lacks pace these days

I listened this morning to NL`s post match interview. I dont think its arrogance with respect to think we should win the game. Its self belief and confidence. I think its slightly different. We lacked confidence at times, with some poor passes or failing to clear the lines. Sometimes you have to attack the ball a bit more, be more agressive or do the simple things when clearing the lines with the confidence that the opposition will get nothing from it. Need to lose that little bit of imposter syndrome that sometimes seems to be around us.
As NL said you have to focus and concentrate and be on it for the duration of the game. We switched off for their goal.

I don’t get the “nothing to fear” mindset about Firhill on Friday - we’ve failed to beat them on 5 occasions so far this season.
Mind you a bit of luck is due.

Even game and a much better to watch than Arbroath.
Morrison was good but he needs to be running at defenders with the ball more as he has pace.
Amade was great in midfield. If we had a Chris Kane that could go the 90mins then we would have won that game.
Ashcroft needs a good thumping in the game on Friday night!
Ref was utter dross....

I think fear is the wrong word. You can respect your opponent but why fear them? Past results have no bearing in the game for Friday. There are so many other variables that can affect the outcome current form, players, confidence etc. If you dont adopt that mindest you are already beaten.

According to the match preview on COWS our recent record at Firhill is better than our record at EEP where we haven`t won in 7 games whereas we have won 2 of the last 5 away games. One was the famous game iunder John McLaughlan in January 2025 when we won 4-1 but we also won 3-1 in February 2024. I think that was a televised game in which Matty Todd scored after running from the halfway line.

Theres an old Chinese proverb that says its not a beautiful woman that blinds a man but the man himself i perception is shaped more by inner emotions than external reality.we can absolutely beat PT on Friday. They are not unbeatable.

^^^ I don`t think they were posting that we "should fear them" I.P.
They were saying "we shouldn`t" !
I am sure we will respect them considering they are a good team and finished 2 spots above us but suspect they will be respecting us too

Give the ball to Morrison.

On reflection that was a hard fought game between two evenly matched teams. If only Robbie Fraser had found the corner with that chance or we were awarded one of those penalties.
There were times we looked nervy and we were lucky not to concede in that frantic last 5 minutes.
In the next game Tod needs to stand up to Ashcroft. Surely we won’t get a ref giving us nothing again in the 2nd leg!
I think if 2 of Mullen, Ngwenya and Bene leave then we could do with signing a centre half with similar qualities to those two at Thistle. If we keep Ox, add in another experienced (and quality) CB to complement what we have then we’ll have a strong spine of experience with Gilmour, Kane and those two.
I think the winner of this tie will give St Mirren a run for their money. Let’s hope it’s the Scottish Cup Winners Cup Playoff Final 😉

For a young player I think Tod did alright as far as standing up to Ashcroft was concerned last night. He was on the receiving end of a lot of heavy challenges but just got up and got on with it and was still willing to run with the ball. A lot of players would have hid.

Yes, based on the league table respect is the appropriate word.

Yeah that’s fair. I was more meaning he should give as good as he gets, as the refs are giving him nothing whenever he goes down.
I think as he gets older he’ll fill out a bit and be more of a handful in the physical confrontations. Sometimes forget he’s barely turned 20.

Final thought from me...what a terrific atmosphere from the near-7000 crowd. Full marks to Thistle fans for coming out in numbers and being heard. We were all rewarded with a great game. Just shows you that crowds will attend when the product is good and the pricing is realistic. (I don`t expect these prices in every game, the business couldn`t afford it, but I think Thistle have definitely missed a trick with their prices for Friday).

There’s a rumour going around that we don’t actually pocket all the profits from this game that it goes towards the parachute payments of the clubs coming down so that’s why we’ve slashed the prices because it doesn’t really effect us

If that`s true, I`m shocked. How can it be right for clubs in the lower leagues to have to fund a parachute payment for clubs failing in the top division? And therefore helping those clubs in their fight to go back up? What a set-up😡

After costs, it`s a 50/50 split between the SPFL and the club. It`s all well and good saying that it`s ridiculous etc, but we could well be needing them in the not too distant future and if it keeps people in jobs at the club and allows us to bounce back, many of you won`t be saying it`s ridiculous then.

How the parachute payments are financed is not as important as the fact that they exist at all. I`ve always thought that they are an admission that the split of revenue between the Premiership and the lower leagues is so unfair that the teams being relegated from the Premiership have to be compensated for their losses. On the other hand you could argue that it`s quite generous that clubs who finish as low as fourth in a league of ten teams get a chance at promotion and they should pay for the privilege.

Is it not just favouring those teams, making it harder for others to get promoted and preventing other jobs being created elsewhere?
I don`t get the logic why it is those who are competing for promotion being the ones that underwrite the ones coming down having better odds to go back up.
