I still deem Shankland in the same vein as Kris Boyd (albeit different types of strikers). Best finishers in the squad, but lacking elsewhere.
Shankland absolutely should be starting now. However, having him to come on with half an hour to go against tired legs probably plays to his strengths more at international level.

Shankland definitely is better at link up than Boyd. But neither are "all-round" international quality. We lack elsewhere when Shankland starts - but if he continues with current form, he`s a nailed on starter.

Bolivia had loads of players missing from their strongest lineup. Essentially a second string team. Not getting excited in the least about this game it’s the next one that counts and it will be way more difficult than today’s game was.

Bolivia were there for a jog round the park, nothing more. That being said, good performance, good goals. I think he’s setting up to go 442 against Haiti but I don’t think he’ll do that against Morocco or Brazil.
Shankland took his goals well. Really like how he put his header in the top corner.

It’s amazing why certain posters can’t accept simple facts. I like to temper blind optimism with a dose of realism as I have seen it all before.
I have been watching Scotland long enough not to get carried away by beating one of the worst teams I have seen us play. Similarly I wasn’t too worried when we lost and looked toothless against both Japan and Ivory Coast.
Bolivia were seriously under strength and for posters to say “ Hey this team beat Brazil “. Eh naw. That team last night did not beat Brazil as they were missing at least 5 first team picks.
It’s a warm up game and served its purpose . Shankland and Adam’s’ confidence will have undoubtedly been given a boost. I think they will both start against Haiti.
Prediction for the game ? Not a chance, it’s Scotland….
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Bolivia are really poor. They only win games at home in La Paz where they benefit from being acclimatized to the 3650m (11940ft) altitude.
I read recently that they went 31 years without an away win in World Cup qualifiers (1993 to 2024). Their 2024 win over Chile was reported as only their second competitive away win of the 21st century, the other being a 3–2 win over Ecuador at the 2015 Copa América.

Beating a poor side 4-0 in unfamiliar conditions shouldn`t be seen as anything other than a positive in my opinion. If we`d sneaked a win and played poorly I could understand criticism but it seems to be part of the Scottish cringe to downplay any sort of success.

Cautious optimism is required I think - yes that was a good performance & result last night but no idea how seriously Bolivia were taking it.
We struggled 11 v 11 against Curacao but both results in the end definitely mean we are entering the tournament in a positive way.
Bolivia haven`t qualified for 8 successive World Cups, so I don`t think 1 result is any gauge.
No idea what standard Haiti are & have seen too many false dawns - Costa Rica in 1990 immediately springs to mind, for example - but hopefully we can be as professional as last night & we haven`t used up our goals over the last 2 games! Shankland is on fire so fingers crossed that continues 🤞🏼
Heading over a week on Wed for the Morocco game so really really hope it`s on the back of another very positive result!

I`ve no doubt the Haiti game will be tough but they seem to have been talked up in the media. They`re actually 6 places below Bolivia in the latest FIFA rankings.

as an "entire picture" don`t think Saturday could have been any better. Team playing at 16:00 in 30+degree heat/humidity. Could see pretty clear that was phases where players would "hold back" then other phases where would be much more tempo to play. 16/17 players all getting reasonable amounts of minutes, no injuries of note, strikers getting goals etc.
Individually again Gannon-Doak a threat every time he is on the ball. Adams looking sharp up front and linking with Shankland. Christie looks to be on form across the 2 warm up games. McTominay and Mcginn coming in on the back of strong end to the season and not carrying knocks like they appeared to be heading into Euro 2024.
Couple of days back at work to go then "jet off" to follow how we get on.

Haiti have been perennial underachievers prior to qualifying this time without having to deal with Canada, USA or Mexico. Indeed, Haiti usually doesn’t make the last round of qualifying in CONCACAF. But this time they topped a qualifying group containing Costa Rica and Honduras so credit is due.
Weather will play a huge role in the game v Haiti. If it’s hot and humid, that plays to their liking.

Watched the highlights of their two games against Costa Rica. First game away finished 3-3. They were 2-0 down and then came back to lead 3-2. Player ? Scored a hat trick with a “ McTomminay “ for second goal.
Second game they won 1-0 and the keeper played a blinder.
My take fwiw is that they are suspect at the back but very quick strong and powerful going forward. No doubt they will be a handful.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

I am. Very worried about Haiti, at the front they are lethal. And we all know the poor starts we have at big competitions. My tea leaves say defeat. Probably better with the next two matches.

Costa Rica is a very tough place to play. The USA’s record in games there is downright abysmal. For Haiti to come back from 0-2 down for a 3-3 draw is really impressive.
