He`s better than Mehmet but I`d rather the scouts cast a larger net for an even better one. We might get a peach for free rather than paying a fee.

I wouldn`t rush into getting Oxborough - esp if we have to pay a fee, he is/was an upgrade on Terrell, Mehmet, Munn (shudder) - but he was one of the few keepers available as an emergency loan.

There are many many more keepers available now, so it makes sense for the club to be circumspect at this stage.

My contacts tell me that "Toby: is about to leave Leyton Orient.
Played well as a goalie/centreback.....worth a shout...
I was sorry to see him leave.....

No thanks, you need a good keeper to get out of this league, Ox is 27 and played a few years in prem. He`s exactly the type of keeper we need.

A safe pair of hands is vital.

St Johnstone won the league with a 21 year old loanee in goals….

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Do you have a few names that are available ?

Most people thought we did extremely well to get Oxborough as a loan (not an emergency loan, as Bandy suggests) as he is very much a Premiership goalkeeper and was unlucky in that he didn`t suit the style of play Motherwell wanted to go with. We`d be doing very well to get anyone significantly better I`d suggest.

Except Oxborough wasn’t brought in as an “emergency loan”. He came in during an open transfer window as a normal loan deal, except that Well could call him back in an emergency.

He has the quality that we need. Should break the bank for him

I think it`s key to get a big, confident presence in goals whether that`s Oxborough or someone else. I`m sure he`d love to play first team football on a consistent basis which is what he`d get here but we probably won`t know if he`s available until Motherwell gets a new manager in.

I`m fine with having Terrell as a backup to develop and learn behind an experienced pro but it`s crucial that the club recruit someone who will come in and be the undisputed #1.

Anyone who says we don’t need Ox is talking nonsense.

He’s an outstanding keeper and we should go all out to bring him in.

The defence was so much more solid and confident when he played.

It was not a coincidence.

I would 100% take Ox or Toby in goals. They are both top-notch keepers 💪

im sure the club will have already asked the question but will be looking at all other options, they cant wait forever though and also aim too high which was a problem in previous years.

Apologies for my earlier inaccuracy re: Oxborough - wasn`t aware of the difference between `regular loan with emergency recall` and `emergency loan`. Every day is a school day.

I can`t name the names of the keepers that might be better than Oxborough who are available in our price range/wage budget , and it`s not really my job too - the club have a scouting department and some analytics for that.

I`m just pointing out that the pool of keepers available now is bigger than than the pool that was available in January (due to end of seasons, contracts expiring etc), and the club would be foolish not to take a look at what`s available before going straight for Ox.

If Ox is signed that`d be great - he`s a very good keeper. But I do think the club going straight in for Ox (when we`d need to pay a fee) without looking wider wouldn`t be sensible.

Wouldn’t mind the Ox as number one next season but agree we should look at other options as well we could get someone better

Toby was rotten when he played in Goal for Kilmarnock last season

My tuppence worth is that we should push the boat out for Ox. He`s obviously an excellent keeper and yes, there are others out there, but there`s an assurance about him that I felt radiated to the defence. Even when he was interviewed he came across as calm and assured and I think his value to the team was more than meets the eye - exemplified by his absence in the playoff vs Partick.

I suspect we will be signing Two - NL likes to have plenty for training purposes and competition.

I`d rather a signing than a loan. We`ve seen the downside of loans (thanks Motherwell!)

just picking up on a previous comment - we shouldn`t be `breaking the bank` for any player.

We tried that approach and the club nearly went extinct.

I have no desire to go through those days again.

I`d be happy enough to see Ox back with us permanently, but I never believed Toby was any better than Deniz. The ability to kick the ball the length of the park is all very well if you consistently find one of your own mates!

I`d definitely have the Ox back but..
Is he available to buy?

I blame Andy Rhodes for this!

I’m not so sure. How many great saves did he make for us? The PK save at Arbroath was good, but we shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place.

The second goal in the final is a mystery. The BBC said he was seemingly unsighted, but the ball is played parallel to the goal line — so how could he be unsighted? — and the view from the opposite goal also undercuts that theory.

I’m not saying he can’t do a job, but this talk about pushing out the boat for him is not merited in my mind.

I think he just got his balance wrong - thought Engels was going the other way and couldn`t readjust in time.

^^^ He was a superb stopper. He did a great job for us.
