 World Cup so far

Now that all 48 teams have played their first games BBC Sport have ranked them based on that performance. The top 4 are France, England, Argentina and Germany. Scotland are ranked 16th, Morocco 8th and Brazil 9th.

I wonder where they had Argentina ranked after 1 game in 2022 and Spain after 1 game in 2010? Means nothing at this stage.

It`s not meant to be a prediction, just an assessment of initial form.

Just under 2500 supporters with banning orders were forced to give up their passports and others were caught at American immigration to return to the UK. With Dallas reporting places being closed, the real test will be when England come to Boston. For me, I am counting the handover here from Saturday. It will be interesting to view what happens after that.
I have been reading some English forums and they are quite toxic. I generally wonder sometimes what drives the English nation. Quite disturbing really.

Meanwhile the Tartan Army have been festooning statues in Boston with traffic cones! Goodness knows where they got them from. not the easiest thing to stow in your luggage.

It`s something that often makes me wonder too. My feeling is that their national psyche, is rather like "small man syndrome", they are nothing, but they feel they have to shout their mouths off a bit to get noticed. They come from a nation that only really exists on account of thousands of years of successive conquests by outsiders. They have been conquered by, firstly, their Celtic neighbours, then dragged into something resembling civilisation when the Romans subdued them, virtually unopposed. Then they have had waves of attacks over centuries, by Angles, Saxons and Jutes, before they were conquered again by the Vikings. After that they fell to the Norman conquest and those families are pretty much still the Establishment to this day, and their subjects still whimper and bow to their betters. Now they are feeling embarrassed again, the shame of having lost their country once more to a wave of immigration. Their women folk have been seen to by a cast of thousands. They do seem to cling to pride in the British empire, but have to deal with the uncomfortable truth that it was only possible due to ingenuity of the Scots thinkers and the might of the Scottish soldiers. Without Scotland, the rest of the UK would have been nothing of any influence on the world stage. I think that kind of national pride they feel which seems to manifest itself in a very aggressive manner is actually something that has festered in their nation, bourne out of thousands of years of humiliation

Was it those three guys in quintessentially English fancy dress during last night`s game?

I thought they were bound to fall out when they each saw that the other two hadn`t come as the witch and the wardrobe.

What drivel, nothing to do with these issues, quite simply, some parts of English fan behaviour is yobbish, partly based on some aspects of English culture is yobbish. It`s sad when it`s made worse by the media hyping them as best in world, as tthey then expect miracles. Tge teams snobby arrogance dies not help.
