I think Japan could go all the way to the final. On their day, with their speed on the counter, they can beat any team in the tournament, but their weakness has often been group temperament—when things go against them, they tend to drop their heads. Seen it time and again in the Asian Cup.
Japan came into this tournament following a solid run of results in friendlies against tough opposition. They were impressive against the Netherlands, and even more so against Tunisia, so they seem to be gathering World Cup momentum. They do indeed look to be a potential dark horse.
