The Ox signs on 2 year deal.
Topic Originator: kozmasrightfoot

I know it`s mentioned in the other thread but a new signing usually gets a separate thread. Some people wont read the `Incoming` thread because they`ll think it`s still a discussion about the last signing.

So, welcome Ox. Hopefully that will instantly make our defenders 10-20% more confident.

Loved the little video teaser. Gave me goosebumps even though I watched it after I’d seen that we had signed him.

I mean, this is a tremendous signing and wouldn’t surprise me if it’s north of quarter of a million, but who really cares?

Welcome back Ox!

Very happy that the club got Ox back. I didn`t think they would be able to do it.

One other player I`d like to see return is Olly Thomas, even if it is only a loan deal.

I heard 200k and I thought that was a big fee.

Ā£200k is a big fee for this league. Anything into 3 figures is a big fee for the Champ, due to how low clubs incomes are at this level.

But if Bord etc are willing to back us to go up, then bring it on. They spent £4m on Sheff Weds for zero return in the end. Imagine they had pumped that into us.

Very glad we were able to get a deal done. I`m sure he will do the business at EEP.

I can`t remember the Pars support ever being this up for signing a goalie.

Really pleased to get this sorted. Goalie issues cost us so many soft goals and points last season, have every confidence in the Ox after he dramatically improved us in that position when he came in last season.

Getting the goalie position sorted was a necessity if we wanted to compete for the title and I’m glad we have done it.

Great addition. Well done to the club.

It probably came to a head after Arbroath game when both our goalies had a nightmare in the same game.
Ox definitely will lose goals and make mistakes but my view of him was he brought a calming influence in the defence and that was the important factor.
He doesn’t panic and makes himself big whereas Deniz was stranded on his line and Terrell while a fine goalie has made some questionable decision making runs and isn’t commanding his box enough.

Was such a shame he missed the Partick game, especially when there was no clash of fixtures & he was only needed for Motherwell`s bench.

No one at this level is immune from mistakes but I agree - it`s been a universally positive reaction to his signing that has been brilliant to see.

The Arbroath play off summed him up for me - conceded that late foul but dusted off the disappointment / annoyance at himself & saved the penalty to get us through.

Really glad he`s back and permanently šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘šŸ¼

I think we could have beaten Partick with Ox as we looked really comfortable first half and obviously not presuming we would have beaten St Mirren, we would have had a chance.
That very late recall from Motherwell must have affected our team

Out of curiosity why did you think that? He was Motherwells 3rd choice goalkeeper…..surely that’s exactly the player we should be taking.

Great impact last season and hopefully he can bring the same calmness and effect this season.

Quite a few on here seem to forget that they wanted rid as well.

I thought his wages might have been a problem as he would be unlikely to fancy a reduction, no matter how much he liked the club and its ambitions, but we must have found a solution to that.

Incidentally, although we used four different keepers last season, only St Johnstone had more shut-outs in the Championship last season according to the Courier.

JCM- Abdulai- Ngwenya were a huge part on all those clean sheets. Such a shame we couldn`t have kept them all together, defence is my biggest worry this season, but Ox coming in is a huge boost.

Yeah. My biggest worry is replacing JCM / Ngwenya.

You have to wonder if this may have been a late decision deal from Motherwell - if it had been on the cards earlier would Musa Dibaga have also been a target, or are the two signings unconnected ?

Hardly a vote of confidence for Terrell, unless perhaps a long term injury is involved.

I was told before Kelty friendly a gk was coming in start of the next week but was also confirmed we were still in talks with Motherwell for Ox too.

I`m sure there`s a lot going on before deals actually come to fruition. So many issues have to be resolved before all parties are satisfied.

Is it just coincidence that Oli Shaw attended the Cup final with tickets obtained through the Ox and now both are signed Pars` players?

Apparently he was on £2.5k a week at Motherwell. Even with the drop in division, he`ll probably still be on decent money, but if he`s been guaranteed the number one spot, that might have been enough to sway him over the financial side.

The fact he`s chosen to come here instead of staying and fighting for his place at Motherwell is a big positive for us, in my opinion.

I wonder if clubs who have a wage structure they have to stick to in fairness to other players, maybe pay a signing-on fee which compensates the new recruit for any loss in regular earnings?

Lennon likes having 3 keepers but I could see Terrell heading out on loan until January or something to see how he gets on in League 1.

Dibaga is a bit older and I think once he`s had some conditioning work done he`ll be an adequate backup for us behind the Ox.

I reckon Luke Robinson will be as good if not better than Ngwenya at left centre half.

Terrell doesn’t deserve a vote of confidence he just needs to get his head down and improve as makes far too many mistakes.

Hope so. He has big boots to fill though and at ā€œ only ā€œ 5’ 9ā€ might struggle against big CF’s or at set pieces. Maybe he is spring heeled like Hammy ?

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
