He means in the other games.

3-0 tops us the group, but theres an outside chance that any win puts us through in 2nd.

Assuming we win but not by three, we`ll have 9 points and +6 or 7.

Group A
Expect Aberdeen to beat Kelty and win the group. If QotS don`t get something from Lesser, Queen`s Park end up with 9 points and a minimum of +4.
So don`t want QP to win by more than three more than us (or a really high scoring two more).

Group B
We want Montrose to get at least a point from bottom placed Spartans at home to win the group. That puts Dundee United in second on 9 points, +7 and scored 8. We`d need to win by two.
Alternatively, Spartans win and we`re a better second.

Group C
Cove Dumbarton game irrelevant to this.

Group D
Doesn`t look good. Expect Dundee to beat Clyde at home so we`d need Airdrie to either win or have a losing draw at home to Ross County. Likelihood is second place will have more points than us.

Group E
Beyond us. Partick top with 9 and +10, but played all four. Second v third with Stenny (8 +3) home to Livi (7 +10). No result has a second worse than our best.

Group F
Ideally a draw with bonus point for St Johnstone at home to East Fife. Or, if they win, we don`t want them to win by 2 more than us.

Group G
Doesn`t matter. Best second is 7 points.

Group H
Doesn`t matter. Best second is 8 points.

Two in our favour already, one against. We`d need three out of the other four groups to go our way. One`s unlikely and another our best chance is to win by two.

I think we`ll need to win by three, but well know for sure this time tomorrow.

I think the likelihood of us beating the Saints by one or two goals and qualifying in second place is so remote that I gave up working it out after group E.

For example, as far as I can see:

1. The second place team from group E will qualify regardless of further results.

2. Queens Park must not beat QOS, or they`ll qualify.

3. Montrose must lose at home to Spartans or they`ll be through in second place as well.

4. And if Dundee win at home v Clyde, Ross County must not get more than one point or that`s another strong candidate for a second place qualifier.

So I`m not even gonna look at any others.

In other words if my recky is correct, we`re out unless we beat Saints by three goals.

I think you`re right about Queen`s Park, parsfan. Also, your analysis of group B is more accurate than mine, so well done. But I still think we`re a busted flush.

So in short ideally:

Queens Park to not win outright versus QOTS

Spartans to beat Montrose

Airdrie to beat Ross County or Dundee not to win outright vs Clyde

Morton to beat Inverness or East Fife v St Johnstone draw with Saints getting extra point

All irrelevant if we can’t beat St Mirren on Sunday. See what the outlook is at 5!

Is there always one game that`s left to be decided after all the others in this competition? If it was done for TV purposes it could easily backfire by being a `dead rubber`.

I think ultimately the game against St Mirren is important for one reason only at this stage - to gauge our progress against premiership opposition. We go through great, but uf not, we have a good idea of where we sit for the league campaign start.

I see our ref from Tuesday night, Abbie Hendry, is in charge of Airdrie v Ross Co today. There`s no sign of Hammy in the RC squad. I don`t think he`s featured at all this season.

Results not too bad so far.

Spartans beating Montrose

Queens Park winning 1-0 which would be fine if it stays low scoring due to us having superior goal difference

Deniz Mehmet named as QOS goalie today. not sure if he`s still on trial.

James Craigen scored the Spartans goal at Montrose.

No Matty Todd in SJ`s squad.

At the moment it looks like any win would see us progress is that correct!

Dundee will qualify on 10 pts but we’d be 9pts with a better goal difference than the others on 9.

As it stands yes, could be the third best second place so sneak in providing a W tomorrow.

Long way to go though.

Don`t forget, there`s still the bonus points to be added to the in-play tables in drawn games.

I just looked and thought I`d got it all wrong for a moment.

That will be that then

I don’t think it is, think if we win we qualify.

Group A - we match their goal difference so any win takes us above them.

Group B - we have better goal difference than Montrose

Group D - goes against us.

Group E - goes against us, whoever wins the shootout, Stenny - they go to 10, if Livvy, superior goal difference

Group F - East Fife just equalised but didn’t matter, we had same GD as St Johnstone at the time but we would’ve scored more goals

G & H already fell in our favour.

Win tomorrow and we’re through.

Yeah at the time I originally posted

Dundee
Then the winner of Stenny/ Livi group as Partick would’ve been more
Then ST J scored but it swung back

1-0 win the mora will do it, hopefully a good performance as well

Stenny beating Livi on pens actually let PT qualify as runners-up with 9 points and a GD of +10. East Fife seem to have won the shoot-out with SJ but they don`t qualify.

At the moment I think Dundee and PT qualify as best runners-up and the third place is between us and QP (assuming we don`t win by 3!). Is that right?

If we win by 1 goal, Saints will win the group on Goal Difference, despite our Head-to-Head victory. We would qualify as one of the three best runners-up.

If we win by 2 goals, we will have the same Goal Difference (+7) as St Mirren. Saints will still win the group on Goals Scored (12 v 11, 13 v 12 etc) as once again GS trumps our H2H victory. We would qualify as one of the three best runners-up.

If we win by 3 goals we will win the group on Goal Difference.

The criteria for deciding between teams with equal points are:
1 Goal Difference
2 Goals Scored
3 Away Goals Scored
4 Matches Won
5 Away Matches Won
6 Head-to-Head
7 Drawing of lots

Those same criteria also apply when deciding who are the three best group runners-up.
