Some great coaches there but I fear for the World Cup if Infantino gets his way.

He wants the venture capital company Thrive capital, run by Josh Kushner whose brother Jarrad is married to Donald Trumps daughter, you couldn’t make it up, to lead the investment set up. If they get their hands on the World Cup expect advertising revenue to be maximised which might mean tv ads during injury breaks and quarters instead of halves. I can’t see UEFA agreeing to back such a set up but money talks. Either way the games gone!

UEFA have already put out a very strongly worded statement. And I can see them denying member nations attending if this goes through.

Gianni is more corrupt than Blatter, the difference is Sepp at least tried to hide it.

I cannot see Infantino nor FIFA surviving if this proceeds and is successful.

This would force a break-away organisation to be born and countries would jump ship.

It`s surely a massive gamble investment wise?

If say UEFA (25% of FIFA members) were to boycott World Cups, or establish their own FIFA MK2 off the back of this then the value of that American investment would plummet.

This might just be UEFA looking for a bigger cut.

From the BBC article about this:-

Fifa said its plan is to extend global development funding to $10bn (£7.5bn). It is also planning to offer each of the 211 member associations the opportunity to access up to $20m (£15m) in one-off capital.

It puts me in mind of one of the times Sepp Blatter was up for re-election where he said he would give countries an extra 250k each `if re-elected`.

As FIFA gives all members the same vote it was seen at the time as a bribe to garner support from less developed countries, particularly those where one person might take the money unopposed. He was obviously re-elected...

Confused by all thus, who owns world cup, presumably fifa. Do they have shareholders or owners. So who does the money actually go to.
Anyway crap idea. Uk football associations are "owned" by uk teams, uefa is "owned" by national associations and fifa is "owned" by continental associations.. but nobody owns anything in the real sense. If we dont agree or like we just ignore and set up independent comoetitions

UEFA issued this statement today. Basically it says they don`t like it but don`t know what to do about it!
[I]
"Today we have learned of FIFA’s deadline to associations to support their proposals or have the one-off payout offer withdrawn. This says everything you need to know about this plan.

But having held discussions with many stakeholders across the game, UEFA knows there is significant and growing opposition to FIFA’s scheme. FIFA cannot continue to use our sport to enrich themselves and their friends. We can grow the game correctly. It’s time to prioritise associations, clubs, leagues, players and fans."

Infantile will be offered the presidency of the new private investment of the world cup. It`s his cushion once he gets booted from Fifa.
When he gave Trump that award I knew he`d sold his bottom to money.
Think he will proceed as the offer of £25million to smaller nations will be too good to reject.
Be surprised if there is not a breakaway tournament

All you need is FAs in the like of Spain, France, Germany, Italy and dare I say England to state they won`t compete and FIFA is done. They can perhaps try and bribe the smaller nations but a "World" Cup without the big teams would be a joke.

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/concacaf-joins-uefa-rejecting-gianni-192901759.html

CONCACAF has joined UEFA in rejecting the FIFA proposal, but hasn`t specifically said it will boycott FIFA tournaments.

The Asian Football Confederation has questioned the lack of consultation on the FIFA process but hasn`t outright rejected the proposal.

The Confederation of African Football will discuss the FIFA proposal next week but has restated its own objective to secure greater funding for football in Africa.

I haven`t seen any statement yet from the South American CONMEBOL or the Oceania Football Confederation.

Wild that UEFA have drawn at line at this, while currently teams compete, some champions of their Leagues, to take part in 3 different tournaments where the draw is heavily stacked to make a load a cash from teams from the most profitable countries...

It`s probably true to say that FIFA and UEFA are commercial rivals, and that each has been seeking to increase its own revenues by tweaking and expanding the competitions it already runs, and also by introducing new ones (Nations League, World Club Championship etc).

I don`t think UEFA is a saintly organisation, but in its 55 member FAs there are enough big beasts to keep UEFA management more or less in check - the "Big Five" World Cup winners, plus another half-dozen significant powers and a score of middle-ranking teams. There are a huge number of countries in other FIFA Confederations who will never trouble even the early rounds of the World Cup, so they are more likely to welcome any windfall from Infantino`s plan, and to reward him with re-election.

It has got to be 25 years since the publication of David Yallop`s excellent book `How They Stole the Game`, an exposé of FIFA corruption during the presidency of Joao Havelange. And my, that guy was corrupt!

When the book was published, the Brazilian Havelange had recently been replaced by a Swiss guy called Sepp Blatter, and according to Yallop, there was every indication that things were about to get worse—much worse. Of course, as we know, they did!

And here we are, ten years on from Blatter`s departure, and things have got infinitely worse under Gianni Infantino. What is it with the Swiss?

It was Havelange who came up with the idea of breaking the status quo, Europe`s comfortable financial monopoly of world football, which he had inherited from Sir Stanley Rous. He did this by allocating more and more money from central funds to the smaller countries for development, thus ingratiating himself with a broader voting base in FIFA.

Blatter developed this concept into an art form during his term, and Infantino has taken things to yet another level again, prostituting the organisation to Trump and his cronies.

I would not be at all surprised if there is a move for a breakaway organisation. But I can`t help thinking that the FIFA bandwagon will just keep rolling on.

It wouldn`t surprise me if Infantino makes a tactical retreat and comes back in a year or so with a modified version that gets through because it`s not as horrific as the original outlandish proposal.

It`s the "Art of the Deal", as someone close to Infantino once said ...

Takes a 20% of the 211 to give a vote of no confidence and can force a leadership challenge. Not seen anything about grounds for dismissal but would be a tough one since his remit is to grow the game and as twisted as this is it could be argued as that.

Breaking Ntws!!!

Fifa president Gianni Infantino says he has scrapped the controversial plan to sell off stakes in the governing body`s major competitions, following widespread opposition.

Infantino said it had become clear the project had "created divisions" that are "no longer in the interest" of its original objective.

The Swiss added: "As a result, this proposal will not proceed."

Infantino had offered all 211 member associations $40m (£30m) if they backed a proposal for private investment in its tournaments, including the men`s and women`s World Cups.

Gianni Infantino has apologised for "errors" he made in controversial plans to sell off stakes in competitions to private investors, but will remain Fifa president after receiving the backing of senior executives in a meeting in Morocco.

Infantino summoned members of the management board to Fifa`s Africa office in Rabat on Wednesday following mounting criticism of his aborted proposals, with world football`s governing body releasing a statement of support four hours after the meeting ended.

However, in a statement following the meeting, Fifa secretary general Mattias Grafstrom and the managament board "reaffirmed their full support" for Infantino as president.

Infantino and Grafstrom also sent a signed letter - seen by the BBC - to Fifa`s vice-presidents, council and 211 member associations saying they "sincerely apologise" for their errors and "commit to them not happening again".

The biggest problem is, what`s the alternative? When he first came into the role, it looked promising, but eye watering payments and bribery turned his head, and he ended up being no less corrupt than those who came before him.

We need someone who is genuinely interested in improving the game and has no interest in lining their own pocket. Unfortunately, I believe that`s a very, very small pool of people. Everyone has a price.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

My experience is that in every successful organisation, whether it is a commercial business, a charity or non-profit society, a football club or even a government or army, there is always one person who takes the lead, is the driving force and makes the big decisions, whatever his or her title.

However, I do agree that in every organisation there should also be an oversight board of some sort that acts as a check on that individual, as sooner or later he or she will make a terrible mistake.

My memory of reading Yallop’s book many years ago was that Havelange sold in advance the advertising/sponsorship rights for the next three world cups to fund his largesse thus securing his position with the support of the smaller countries.
Infantino clearly read the book too!

Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has been given a 10-match ban for the role he played in on-field clashes after his side were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

Fifa`s disciplinary committee has also handed his team-mate Nahuel Molina a seven-match suspension.

Argentina have also been ordered to play their next two home matches behind closed doors, though one match of that sanction is suspended.
