I always liked Matt Todd, but in my opinion he was always a very limited player, a League One player really. I think what brought him up a level, was his love for The Pars, that extra effort he put in as he loved the club.
I didn`t think he was worth giving a new deal to, if we want to move up a level. Fair play to him getting a contract with a Premiership Club, hope it works out for him but I have a feeling he will find his level back in League One when his contract expires

I thought he really improved 2nd half of the season. I don`t see him being 1st choice at St J if I am honest, and I think he is the type of player who needs to play consistently. At his age, he had to take his opportunity when it came along so I hope he does well.

Certainly put the effort in for us but as mentioned was limited but had an eye for goal and a decent first touch. Another who didn’t have a dedicated position, not a good enough final ball a trick or pace for the wing, not quite good enough for central midfield and not really a number 10.
Part of the reason we are improving is we have players who play a dedicated position these days instead of jack of all trades types who we fudge in and expect to perform.

The point is (which I’m sure you actually know) that if Berkey makes the same point as other posters, you and DA in particular will pick out Berkey instead of adding more generally to the conversation, which 9 times out of 10 turns the thread into a cauldron of childish tit-for-tat.

My hope is Shea Kearney will surpass what Matty has done for the club. He has bags of ability and speed, he just needs to believe in himself. Very good player who is a frustrating watch at times as he has bags of potential and doesn’t produce consistently, but I back him to surpass Matty Todd as he has much more potential. He is young and learning against some tough seasoned pros and still gets the better of them. That is my tuppence worth. 😬. I also feel they are different players, so hard to compare exactly.

I agree about Kearney, and I think this is what NL sees in him
He finds space very well, I think he suffers from confidence, and that would tell if he will kick on. He has been one of the best this season in my opinion, he plays back too much , when he goes forward he is a handful.
He has come from a part time environment and he is making progress.

From what I`ve seen of Shea Kearney and if he keeps developing, he will be a better player than Matty (at RWB), just needs to sort his final ball and decision making. But he`s quick, brave and good with the ball at his feet.

He`s still recovering from a foot injury suffered in his first match but they now have a three-week break which should help him to be fit for their next competitive game. I`m disappointed he didn`t see a future with the Pars but good luck to him.

Going on his resulting improvement in performances, it would appear on the surface, that whatever his relationship may have been, it improved him as a player. I believe last season he was offered the opportunity to leave but decided to stay and fight for his place. Good on him for doing that and he has a reward for doing so.
I`m sure NL is straight and forthright but also fair. Ultimately a good manager is there to get the best out of you, but that journey starts within yourself in my view. You don`t have to be liked, but just respected.

Rumour is NL slaughtered him when he first came in. Gave him a proper ultimatum-get better or get out. I think over the course he improved all round. Yeah his body language spoke volumes when he’d warm up behind the goals at games.
Even the faithful singing his name didn’t get a response.
I knew then he was well p1ssed off.

I didn`t think Todd was a brilliant crosser. His deliveries were often mixed, much like the ones our wing backs are producing now. I think the main difference between him and Kearney is that Todd was more direct in his attacking play. Being a midfielder converted into a RWB, I`d expect him to be a more forward thinking approach rather than that of a defensively minded player such as Kearney.
I wish him well and hope the move works out for him, but I`m looking forward with the current squad rather than worrying about players who have chosen to move on.

He didn`t prove Lennon wrong, Neil Lennon knew exactly how good or bad he was, the problem was a perceived lack of attitude at the start of the season which caused the argument
A clear the air meeting pointed out the fact to Todd that if he didn`t change and buy in to the management teams philosophy, then he would find himself out of the team and out of contract which would have probably led to an offer from a League 1 team.
Lennon got the reaction he wanted for the good of the team and Matty Todd got his reward with the move away from the club he wanted
