 Tory Party Split

Three Conservative MPs resigning and joining The 8 ex Labour MPs.

Anna Soubry, Sarah Wollaston and Heidi Allen wrote a joint letter to Theresa May to confirm their departure.

Hardly a surprise. The same thing happened with the SDP back in the 1980s.

A few Tories will be pleased to see the back of Ms Soubry...

As a Conservative I say good riddance to all 3 of them.

Would like to see all 11 have the courage to call a by election but I suspect none of them will. Self serving cowards

Delighted to see the back of them.

The only thing the eleven defectors have in common is to Remain in the EU.

How long will they last?

And within 24 hours they're already embroiled in a race row too.

Good start to this "non-party".

Interesting that another "non party" in Nigel Farage's Brexit Party already has a far larger number of supporters.

These 11 will be unemployed soon enough.

Listening to Heidi Allen's resignation speech it was very powerful. Harking back to compassionate conservatives. I have been very impressed by both her and Soubry over the last 12 months. I wonder if the likes of Amber Rudd and Dominic Grieve might follow. That would certainly leave a rather talentless rump.

Is Heidi Allen the MP who went round the country with Frank Field (another self-declared independent MP I think) to see the effects of austerity policies on communities? Maybe she had her eyes opened.

I am a constituent of Dominic Grieve. The sooner he goes the better.
I don’t know anyone locally who supports him currently.

Cameron got rid of him as Attorney General because he kept deferring decisions to the ECJ. He has been trying to make a name for himself since.

Rumour has it he intends to stand down at the next GE so he doesn’t care what his constituents think. We have a controversial planning application in process to build over 1000 new houses in the town that is strongly opposed since it will change the character of the town forever. The existing infrastructure is already under severe pressure.
Grieve is very quiet on the issue. Too busy faffing around on his anti Brexit activities

It wasn't because of the ECJ it was his warnings against leaving the Human Rights Convention that scunnered him.

When was there ever a compassionate Tory?
