 Iran petrol protests

This caught my eye and probably just qualifies for this forum if you factor in the US sanctions

Protests have erupted across Iran after the government unexpectedly announced it was rationing petrol and increasing its price. At least two people have been killed.
Prices rose by at least 50% on Friday as subsidies on petrol were reduced.
The authorities say they want to free up money to help the poor.

It would appear that the ordinary Iranian in the street can only buy 60 litres of petrol per month at 10p per litre
Every litre after the allowance will be 20p a litre........ oh jings

We are forever shaped by the Children we once were

60 litres would do me nearly a month driving back and forth to Edinburgh. And that's at £1.22p/l rather than 10p! Bring them over here for a month and see if they fancy a swap!

To be fair, it's practically the only advantage to living in Iran over the UK and I suspect that if you went to live there the 20p petrol would lose its appeal pretty fast!

The enemy travels by private jet, not by dinghy.

There's also the lower average income to consider too:

I remember the milkman’s horse, we didn’t have a hedge and it would nibble at the grass verges of the front lawn.
I was knee high to that enormous beast, but it was placid and gentle so wasn’t scared.
Did the round for years, when the milkman stopped to offload a crate of bottles for a section of the street it would plod on its own to the next scheduled stop and wait patiently.
