 Failed politicians
Topic Originator: Parsbilly

some can't take no for an answer

Farage has lost how many general election attempts?

Locally we have Cara Hilton who is a consistent loser, Docherty before her.

Neale Hanvey could not even retain his seat as a councillor and now he is standing as an MP (watch how his suspension is lifted if he wins Kirkcaldy)

These folk have brass necks, give them that

Docherty was elected as an MP and I think Hilton was a Councillor, wasn't she?

You know you have a nose for this when all three refuse to communicate with you. Hope the both of them get their totties. Shows how bad it's got if those are the best candidates they can put forward.

Neale Hanvey lost because of the STV voting system.
His name was second SNP one on the ballot.
Jean Hall Muir appeared before his so many voters put 1 for her and 2 for him.
Tories and Labour only put 1 candidate forward each.
SNP got far more votes but lost out narrowly on winning 2 seats as not 100% of the extra transfer over.
If his name was first alphabetically he would have won easily.

Voting for Hanvey anyway as no more anti-semitic than me.Totally rubbish getting suspended for saying Soros is a manipulator who had made around a Billion from us with the run on the pound and Israel are badly treating the Palestinians.

Is that a wow as I have my principles or a wow that I think it was a rubbish stitch-up for hardly any comment or quote that was anti jewish.

It is utter rubbish that any comment against Israel for it's despicable treatment of the Palestinians is even thought to be anti Jewish. The Israeli government have somehow turned any criticism of them into a hatred of jews.Sorry I think they are treating these people abysmally but I have no hatred of jews.

Do you even know it was that Hanvey did? It certainly wasn't because he said that George Soros made a mint from the Conservative government of John Major making a balls up of the e.r.m.

If the SNP vote had been split 50/50 I believe they would both have been elected.
It's just a quirk of the STV system.
I was just making the point that although he was rejected as the OP put it that it wasn't because the SNP had lost.

I only went on what was reported in the papers about the George Soros meme. If he didn't tweet that then he really should sue the papers. He won't though because he hasn't been suspended for alleged anti semitic comments he actually did make anti semitic comments hence his public apology.

It wasn't a meme it was an article in Sputnik.
The article makes absolutely no reference to Soros being Jewish. Neale says his ethnicity never even crossed his mind when he shared it.
The problem is that there is an antisemitic trope that Jews supposedly control the world, so the cartoon of Soros as a puppet master is deemed antisemitic
The link to article is here if you want to look at it and decide for yourself
https://sputniknews.com/world/201608151044266398-soros-dcleaks-russian-hacker-hillary/

The other thing he did was liken Israel's treatment of Palestinians to the Nazi's treatment of Jews in WW2.
I don't think that is antisemitism, it is insensitive and possibly distasteful but antisemitic? Not for me.

The internationally accepted protocol, implemented by the SNP, is not for you?
Btw..not only has the party dropped its Kirkcaldy candidate like a hot spud, a member of their standards committee has investigated herself for much the same thing and resigned. Jumped before dumped you could say.

The international standard definition of antisemitism isn't universally acceoted though is it Mario?

The controversy centres around whether or not it is actually antisemitic to compare the israeli government's policies with those of nazi Germany.

Whilst I think that it is lacking in sensitivity and it's factually innacurate, (Israel is more like Apartheid South Africa) it's not antisemitic to my mind.

Well it’s accepted by all of our main political parties. If they boot folk out for begging to differ with party policy that’s up to them. Can’t see it being reversed either.

100% agree with this. I wouldn't make that comparison personally but Judaism is not Israel and Israel is not Judaism. Critisicm of one is not automatically criticism of the other.

Why? His suspension will be lifted now he won Kirkcaldy

Not bad for a councillor that was in the pocket of a Dunfermline property developer before getting booted out
