 Flour of Scotland

Will this be the anthem for the new Republic, or will it be panned as a crusty old memory of yeasterday, a slice of nostalgia about a battle won, ignoring the plainly more significant clash when kilted warriors were rolled over?

Well actually Bannockburn was the more significant battle as it secured the status of Scotland as a nation in its own right from that moment on. Anyway surely it is still a better anthem than God Save The Queen?

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

I've got to say God Save the queen is the most cringy anthem I've ever heard. I have to turn the TV off or on to mute anytime I hear it. It's the sort of thing you would expect to have as an anthem if you lived in a tin pot dictatorship. Anyone that sings that is a brainwashed forelock tugger with no self respect

A party that`s only interested in the dough tends to come up with half-baked ideas.

Plod.

What would a proud Scot like you prefer to have as an anthem for the ancient nation of Scotland???

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Somebody using his loaf - well done eck.

GSTQ is indeed almost as bad a dirge as the Corries eye lid drooper. The French, German and Russian ones do stir my sporran though. How aboot Donald where’s yoor troosers as a more jaunty option for us?

Maybe have an anthem that looks forward rather than back?

How about the Bluebell Polka? Jaunty, upbeat, and no pesky, divisive lyrics to get people upset.

If you don`t fancy `Flour of Scotland` maybe the Welsh would lend us `Bread of Heaven`. After all, they`ve already got `Land of My Fathers` .

What new republic?
The SNP constitutional policy, under both Salmond and Sturgeon, has been to retain HRH Queen Elizabeth as Head of State.
We`re stuck with GSTQ for a while yet, whatever transpires.

Quite a few countries have QE2 as head of state but don`t have GSTQ as its national anthem.

Plus, I would imagine that pretty soon after independence, we will get rid of the royals as well. There's no appetite for them here

BigJPar doesn`t like me ever since we crossed swords over criminals and Roma. Maybe he`d had his lawnmower nicked from his garden shed so he has good cause. That`s a great loss, for any man.

But on God Save the Queen I am on strong enough ground. TWOK`s post, which BigJpar thinks is definitive, did not exclude the many countries who still have GSTQ as their national, or Royal Anthem at the least. So the nonsense belongs not to me, but to BigJPar. He needs to read more widely. Visit the Caribbean once you are released from your UK open prison, that cradle of democracy as was.

Neither Salmond nor Sturgeon has the mettle to disavow the national anthem which is why we need something more. The rest is the same under a saltire.
