Surely it`s time to scrap them when a disgraced former PM nominates his daddy to receive one?!

His younger brother is already a Lord....£335 a day tax free.

Surely it`s best to be independent?

Nobody seems to care about this kind of cronyism. It`s just accepted as the way Westminster works. It`s a price worth paying for being part of the precious union.

Tommy Sheppard MP sums it up nicely :-

`Boris Johnson is making a mockery of the honours system, just like he a made a mockery of British politics. The idea that he could nominate his own father for a knighthood and think he could get away with it sums up the arrogance of the man. His entire honours list should be scrapped without delay.

This corrupt, crony-ridden Westminster system - including the honours system - is completely outdated and unfit for purpose. Only with the full powers of independence can we rid ourselves of these charlatans for good, and build a fairer, more prosperous society.`

Plenty of cronyism in Scotland though to be fair.

We had the CEO of the SNP married to the First Minister, and the First Minister’s personal trainer was the government’s COVID adviser.

I’m not sure about scrapping the honours system altogether, but politicians and journalists shouldn’t be getting them.

Is that the best you can come up with? Which adviser are you referring to?

ETA - For as long as I can remember the Chairman of the Conservative Party has been an MP with a seat in the Cabinet (when the Tories are in power of course!). I`ve never understood why that should be the case. Maybe one of our Unionist friends could enlighten us.

Wee Eck, the advisor in question is Devi Sridhar. She is an American professor at Edinburgh Uni. However as far as I can tell while she may have taken on a personal trainer role relationship with Sturgeon it was after she had been appointed to the covid advisory board to the Scottish government. In fact i think classing her as Sturgeon`s personal trainer is a bit of stretch.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

`...bit of a stretch...` Very good!

She writes in the Guardian occasionally so is obviously a leftie. I think she mentioned that she was going to run a class to help improve well-being post- Covid. I doubt if money would change hands.

That`s a relief though. I`d be worried if highly-qualified medical people like Jason Leitch or Gregor Smith had the time or inclination to act as personal trainers.

`She writes in the Guardian occasionally so is obviously a leftie.`

The warmongering Guardian, supporters of every NATO incursion this century, are about as `leftie` as my mother`s old magazine The Women`s Realm. Many of the Guardian articles these days are of about the same level of political seriousness. Patriarchy bad, matriarchy good is the editorial position politically. In fact any female political leader in the EU or Anglosphere who flirts with right wing ideas is lionised actually preferable to that Guardian abomination: the white, male, heterosexual with a proletarian background.

One gender specific complaint I am yet to hear from The Guardian is of the disproportionate amount of male soldiers being killed in the fighting in Ukraine. This is one area- prison populations is another- where I don`t think we will be hearing demands for diversity and quotas.

I`m afraid to say that the liberal, left leaning Guardian is no more.

It was meant to be an ironical comment, sammer, but rant away.

Wee Eck,

I`ll check out the doctor about my tin ear.

My point about The Guardian turning into a women’s magazine still stands though. Here is a selection from today’s headlines. It’s International Women’s Day so I have omitted articles that you might expect to see on such an occasion.

‘The rapturous return of the butch lesbian scene.’

‘Tackling period stigma with young footballers.’

‘After the terrifying earthquakes, it’s women and girls in Turkey feeling the shock.’

‘What fresh, misogynist hell is this?’ (It’s a story about a café)

‘There is a betrayal of women’s bodies in sport.’

‘Michelle Obama said she sobbed ‘uncontrollably’ after Trump’s inauguration.’
‘UK singer Charlotte Church on Chris Moyles offering to take her virginity when she was 16.’

‘Wild women: The rise of all female outdoor activity groups.’

‘For teenage girls, escaping harassment, revenge porn and deepfake porn is impossible,’

‘Female activists fight for peace in DRC.’
