Surprised it`s not been commented on already.
Apparently we`re going to issue more licences (to private companies) to extract more oil and gas from the North Sea where *checks notes* we were told there was little oil and gas left. Weird.
We`re also being told by our Energy Minister that this will mean becoming self reliant and removes the need to deal with Russia. Even though we export most of our energy currently. But it`s fine because it means we can`t be bribed by Russia and there`s no way that Russian Tory donors would have any sway whatsoever. Good stuff.

And who else would they issue licences to? A Scot Gov owned drilling outfit managed by Lorna Slater?

Jake, I don`t think we do export most of our energy do we? I was under the impression the UK was a net importer of energy. I know that by 2030 oil from the North sea will barely cover a quarter of what the UK will be estimated to burn.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

We import more oil than we export (though it`s roughly like for like in terms of numbers). I believe it`s to do with the type of oil.
As for who could buy the licences, it wouldn`t be hard to NOT licence just now and spend some time reviewing how to ensure that the majority of the money ends up in the hands of the UK taxpayer. I`m clearly not an economist or business expert but presumably UK Gov could be a major shareholder in an energy company, or could investigate setting up a publicly run energy company.

Forgot to mention that places like Aberdeen should be focussed on moving away from oil and gas. It WILL run out. This is like putting a sticking plaster over a knife wound.
"Desperation" is probably an accurate description. All we`ve seen from the Tories in the last week is ridiculous spin about migrants, climate change and benefits. Few people are falling for it though.

Ahead of the 2019 general election, we had the Tories announce to big fanfare their plans to ensure the tax system supported the Scotch whisky industry. That commitment has been abandoned and the average bottle of whisky will now be taxed at an astonishing 75%.
The duty rate on spirits will rise to £31.64 per litre of pure alcohol, meaning that of the £15.22 average price of a bottle of Scotch Whisky, £11.40 is collected in taxation through duty and VAT. The tax burden on the averaged priced bottle of Scotch Whisky has risen from 70% to 75%.

I`m not seeing any Anglophobia on here. Can you point it out? At the same time, perhaps you can reflect on constantly referring to Lorna Slater as the "Canadian Goose"?

Poor boy can`t stand being called out, so he screams anglophobia when there isn`t any. Maybe if poor Mario could actually debate instead of talking like he`s currently licking Prince Andrews scrote, he`d do better on here.

Absolutely RSP!
Funnily enough, my pal in the Polis was telling me that the vast majority of folk arrested at the Just Stop Oil protests in Scotland (mainly Grangemouth) were actually from England.
Not the only foreign interference we`re seeing in Scotland though! 😉
