 Scottish Child Payment

£680 million paid out to struggling families by the “ incompetent “ Scottish Government. Safe to say it is £680 million more than any other part of the U.K. has paid…I suppose it could have been spent on potholes…

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Could have given more to struggling families had they not incompetently awarded ferry contracts to a shipyard that couldn`t build them. That was a couple of hundred million down the drain and we`re heading for another 100 million or so dent in the budget if Biffa are successful in the court case.

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

If these first two replies don`t sum up the issues in politics today, I don`t know what does.

A good news story about Scottish families being helped in their time of need, and the first two comments both ignore the positives and look at ways to make digs.

We need to get to a stage where the positives are acknowledged, and ideas from across the political spectrum given to enhance the good work.

Similarly, there`s a time and place to debate both points raised above and put serious questions to the government. But why the constant need to play politics?

Why can`t we just acknowledge and praise this undoubted positive? Does it always have to be a political game?

So you don`t see how the original post was framed to score political points??

Scotland has child poverty levels of around 1 in 4. In England it`s closer to 1 in 3. Hard to say if £680m is value for money or not.

I`d be interested in seeing what could be done to trial UBI. It`s been introduced elsewhere but I`m pretty sure the longest study was in Africa so it`s hard to gauge the costs as a few quid there could be thousands here. It appears to encourage greater productivity and seems like a logical move to me.

So what?

It`s a positive story, regardless of how you see it being `framed`. You didn`t even acknowledge it, never mind debate it.

But `ferries`!

Sometimes reading this forum makes me think I`ve strayed on to the Daily Mail online edition by mistake.

It`s certainly more balanced than the Daily Mail.

It`s certainly not fully supportive of the SNP. Hanvey, Regan and Kerevan are regular columnists and the letters page is full of anti SNP stuff. I could have quoted plenty of examples of anti independence media. All you can come up with is the National. It`s no` fair that there`s one wee paper that doesn`t toe the Unionist line!
