Never used any of the services but was shocked to read that 118 118 charge £11.23 for a 90 second call. BT has just cut it's cost from £6.88 to £3.10 for a 90 second call. Seems very expensive to me. In this day in age with internet availability everywhere it seems to me they are exploiting the elderly who are less likely to access the internet.Absolute rip off.

Speaking clock still exists.123 I think. Wouldn't bother calling it though! Probably not cheap.

The most expensive 118 ranges are ridiculous. Something daft like 16 quid a call plus 8 pounds a minute.

That being said I think Ofcom are now looking to sort it as it clearly has gotten out of control.

If you call them and they "connect" you they charge fees etc for this as pretty much paying a 118 call + call forwarding charge.

If you get the number and dial yourself you would be charged local/national call rate etc depending on who it is you are calling.

There was a story several years ago about an airline pilot who dumped his lady.

She waited until he was away on a long distance flight, sneaked into his apartment, dialled the speaking clock and left it off the hook !!!
