 Dealership Rip Off?
Topic Originator: Parplod
Date:   Fri 21 Sep 16:27

A friend has a 2007 Toyota Avensis. He has lost (or has had stolen) the front grille. A Toyota dealership has quoted £127 for the part and £155 for 90 minutes labour, advising that they would have to remove the front bumper. I have suggested phoning round a few car breakers. Does the front bumper have to come off? Any mechanics out there to advise whether this is a rip off or not?

Me too.
And id also check euro car parts for the part.
Got a light for the wife's 207 a couple of years back for half what peugeot wanted and it came complete with all the bulbs. Quick look at youtube and it was fitted in no time.

Talking about rip offs......John R Weir...both Grangemouth and Perth have been sold to Arnold Clark.some time ago........!!!!!!!.....Their hourly rate was allways high.......it is now £125 plus VAT....THAT IS £150 PER HOUR !!!!! How can they justify these prices.
I have started to use an excellent, fairly local,ex Mercedes mechanic. They are VERY Professional.......and charge a lot less......Name and address for them can be supplied if required......

In the middle of a warranty arguement myself, bought a 16 plate Qashqui 8 months ago, have done 3K miles, under manufacturers warranty till next March. Front discs have warped and ball is in Western Nissan court, common problem with Qashqui, but maybe not covered by the manufacturer warranty.

Nissan's warranty does state they exclude "brake friction materials, discs and drums'. However, they also exclude batteries, and they changed mine at 2.5 years old under warranty, when I pointed them towards forums with lots of owners moaning about dodgy FIAMM cells.

EuroCarParts are normally at the more expensive end for parts, can always get them cheaper on other websites if you're willing to wait for the part.
They are dead handy for getting the part on the same day though.

Nissan forum full of complaints, some discs warping after 6K miles!

I find that Eddie Walkers in Falkirk are about the cheapest around for quality parts.
Example : 2 Borg & Beck ventilated front discs + Borg & Beck pads for my Volvo S60 :- £107

Well some headway, Nissan replacing discs under warranty and paying for labour. I have to pay for replacement pads, approximately £70, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick I suppose.
