Can anybody settle a family dispute? Was St Leonard's ASDA once a Safeway supermarket and what other names has it traded as in the past?

Well technically Coopers was taken over by fine fare in1955 but they were still trading as coopers in the early 1970s.

Directly across is Daviot Road.
To the left is Bendachin. That is where the ice rink was.

Asda at Halbeath Rd opened about the same time as Coopers Fine Fare in St Leonards St. ( late 1975 ). Before it was ASDA in Halbeath Rd it was Websters motor factors for a couple of years and before that it was Farmec (farm machinery ) who moved down to Cairneyhill where David L Douglas is now. Across Halbeath road was the Monotype factory and the Ice Rink ( home of the Dunfermline Vikings ) and then the SSEB moved in I think with their transmission dept. Incidentally I worked on the construction of Fine Fare (wee Asda), I had a short walk to work, i
I was living in Whirlbut St at the time. The celebrity that opened it was actress Hannah Gordon.

I remember working at St Leonard’s on a Friday & Saturday night about 24 years ago. Stacking the shelves & grabbing as much so called free food as you could😂. Oh.....I accidentally burst that bag of crisps or sweets. Might as well eat them!
How time fly’s

Led Zeppelin link!?........

It was a Fine Fare in the 70's (a good bit after they bought out Coopers) and the stores were subsequently bought by Gateway backed by finance from Isoceles at a time when interest rates were going through the roof at up to 15% in the 80's, Gateway could not buy stock due to the cashflow problems and so they sold all of the larger Fine Fare stores to Asda as a result and the smaller ones remained as Gateway until it changed to Sommerfield later on.

There are a few people in this thread who also know a lot about it around the late 70's, did anyone work for the store boss JR(!**!!), Danny Miller or even (someone) Brown?.

As a group of Fine Fare workers we organised a great trip to Knebworth in 1979 to see Led Zeppelin at their last ever big gig along with other great bands, are there any posters who went down there too or remember this era?

This was the set list we were treated to!!!

Led Zeppelin Setlist at Knebworth House, Knebworth, England
The Song Remains the Same.
Celebration Day.
Black Dog. (Out On the Tiles intro)
Nobody's Fault but Mine. (Blind Willie Johnson cover)
Over the Hills and Far Away.
Misty Mountain Hop.
Since I've Been Loving You.
No Quarter.
