 Frozen windscreens.

Why do people persist in scraping frozen windscreens. Just pour hot water over it ,Even boiling water. It's a myth that it will shatter,it's laminated. You will just leave scratch marks if you scrape.

Tell that to the guy across the road fae me who shattered the windscreen of his works transit last year using a kettle of water. It was hilarious... But he didn't find it as funny as I did for some reason 🤔

It will only shatter if there is a fault in screen ,ie a chip.Done this for 35 years, never had a issue.

Top tip ladies. Get a ziploc bag or similar type. Fill it with warm, not boiling water and rub it on your windscreen. Nae cauld hands. Does the job in seconds. Easy peasy

I know a guy who used to put vodka in his scteenwash bottle.
Don't know which ratio he used but he was always banging on about how vodka was better than anything else as it didn't freeze easily.
I just always make sure I've got a plentiful supply of that de-icer stuff that they sell in asda (other stores are available)

The nozzles are the problem no matter how much de-icer.Once they freeze then no spray.
Why car manufactures can't solve that easy problem with a cooking hot engine underneath I have no idea.

Don’t do either. Just get in the car, start it up and press the magic button for the heated windscreen. Love my XC60! 👌🏻

What about the side windows. Does the magic button work on them as well? 😂

boiling a kettle is probably the most un eco friendly way to defrost a windscreen.
Scraping or de-icer far cheaper and way more eco friendly!

How is pouring hot water (a natural resource) un eco friendly?
What damage does it do to the environment,?

I assumed he meant the power it takes just to boil a kettle of water... I may be wrong.

....although I would wonder why anyone would wait for a kettle to boil when warm or hot water from the tap is more than adequate.

I've seen the plastic bag suggestion a few times recently but don't know why this would be better or quicker than just pouring warm water over the ice? Appreciate it can refreeze but if the windscreen wipers are on shouldn't be a problem.

Then again what would I know, I just set the timer so that the heater comes on in the car and its toasty before I even set foot in it.

Just spray your frozen windscreen with lighter fluid and set alight to it... Hey presto... A roasty toasty fire to warm your hands and a clear windscreen in no time at all...
(warning... Setting fire to your car can lead to uncontrollable fires.. Contact the fire brigade for details) 🔥

At this time of year I empty my windscreen wash bottle of water and put in 'pure' undiluted screenwash you get at Halfords. Warm water over the windscreen clears the ice and my washers are never frozen. Never had any issues with that combo and it works a treat.

I just sit in the comfort of my kitchen eating my breakfast and use my app on my phone to turn the climate control on in the car. Never had to go out to a cold car all winter. Fully heats up in minutes, warm seats, steering wheel and 20 c inside & no ice on any windows. Sadly, them the mrs drives it to work & im left to scrape the ice off my van😭
