 Edinburgh advice
Topic Originator: widtink

OK I'm after some guidance from knowledgeable folks..
My dear old mother is travelling down south to stay with my nephew for a few days next month.
She gets the train from Edinburgh... Tickets already booked. Sorted.
Now... The issue is....
She is old and doesn't want all the hassle of having to get a train to Edinburgh from Dunfermline and would prefer it if I could drive her to the train station in Edinburgh and drop her off there. Which is fair enough... But...
Can i still get to the station in a motor to drop her off?
The station is basically just off Princess Street and I've not been there since the trams were introduced and I know there's been a lot of changes to that general area in regards to vehicles.
Thanks in advance for all advice.... Even the petrol and matches replies lol. 😂

The Calton road entrance at the back of the station is the best place for this scenario.

Most of the time there is space to quickly dump your car and escort your mother in. There is also a disabled access lift at this entrance of the station.

Sorry, I should have said...
She's not to good on her feet these days so it's either I run her to Edinburgh or she just won't go.
Thanks for the advice but I should have made her mobility issues clearer.

Is there disabled parking there do you know?
She does have a disabled badge/permit whatever they are called and she did say that as long as I'm taking her somewhere that I can use it even though its my car that I'm using.
If there was disabled spaces there that might solve the problem if she can't get her ticket changed.
Cheers.

Get on at Inverkeithing and ask for escort, my mother was using the service and couldn't praise it enough, she is 89.

Calton Road drop off is the place to go, also call up and arrange mobility assistance; they will even come and pick her up front the drop off if you want, help her onto the train, get her settled and assist getting off at the other end.

If your mum is travelling with LNER call their Assisted Travel line on 03457 225 225.

Can also arrange the same from Inverkeithing on the same number if travelling LNER..

There is a drop off/pick up turning circle at the Calton road entrance widtink which has 3 disabled parking spaces if I recall correctly.

But as others have said, best contacting the train operations company. There customer care in scenarios like this is fantastic.

They aren’t disabled parking bays, but drop off bays which only give you 15 minuets which isn’t much. Most London bound trains leave from P8 or P9 which from Carlton entrance involves using 4 lifts as it’s the completely the other side of the station.
It is definitely worth using the assistance service as when I have seen others customers use it, they have radioed in the car registration of the person dropping off, presumably giving it more time.

Edinburgh Park doesn't have a car park but South Gyle does and it's almost always got spaces.

If you would like to take your mum all the way to the train the long stay car park at Waverley gives you the first 40 minutes free.
Just don't put in the post code on the website of Apcoa who operate the car park for Network Rail!!!

Access is off New Street; you go under the Council building.

Was going to say the same Mr Mac. 40 minutes free parking, a lift right at the end where you can drop someone off before parking up, and easy to get to.
