Why can’t the respective parts of the UK compete?

UK entry so bland, no reflection of culture, no visual impact.

Must we wait for Indy for Lads and Lassies in kilts on stilts to explode onto the stage?

The problem with the UK is it's treated here as a bit of a joke. Consequently most UK songwriters do not want to be associated with it.

You're right though our song finished in the correct place. It was a bland effort sung by a reality singer. It was extremely boring. Lucky to get the 3 points of got from the audience vote.

Indeed he did eck and of course our very own Lulu.
Kenneth had a fine tenor voice, and was a proud Scot. His kilt went down well at Eurovision. Eh I mean it stayed up, no fell doon..though who knows it could have got him a few extra points. Or disqualification...
Lulu is still strutting her stuff, and can switch her Glasgow accent on and off like a tap

Good point Moviescot.

British rock/pop have ruled the airwaves of Europe since the Sixties. We don’t do deliberate mince very well, on the other hand the Froggies lived on a diet of pale imitation Elvis mince from Johnny Halliday for about 50 years

Behave yourselves ffs!
Since when has Eurovision ever been about the best song.
Its the who is pals with who show and we have never done well since Thatcher.
Europe friggin hates us. Well they hate England. Scotland would probably win it just to stick it up England.

Aren't we not restricted in who we can put forward to represent us?

Sure there was something that prevented us from putting out a band like Muse or Biffy Clyro which would wipe the floor with the other entries.

Granted we'd still lose due to the rigged voting.

The UK is a toxic brand to the rest of Europe. It's the most hated country in the world after America, so no chance of any Eurovision success anytime soon

Not sure about restrictions. Only thing I know is about the number of people allowed on stage. Are you thinking we can't put forward established stars? Our did you mean something else?

Yes, that's probably how I'd put it moviescot. We've not put an entry in who are currently high up in the charts. We had Blue not long ago but they were all but done at the time.

They might just be wanting to promote young talent, sure it does wonders for their confidence finishing last most of the time.

Hang on a minute...
Norton said a couple of times last night that a few of the acts had had number one hits (with the same songs they were singing last night) in their respective countries.
He also mentioned the millions of views and likes some of the artists had on social media... YouTube, Facebook etc....
So I don't think there's any rule that states a recognised musical artist or band cannot compete.

Correct, number one hits in their respective countries, they're not known anywhere else...

A lot of UK bands are known and tour worldwide.

I could be and most likely be waffling.

No several of the songs were high in the charts of several countries.

As far as I believe there is no restrictions on who represents you. They don't even have to be from your country.
There are restrictions on the song. It has to be released /written within a certain time period prior to the contest. You can then get any artist to sing it. It's a song contest (in theory) not an artist contest.

In UK because we generally don't take it seriously no established artists are willing to go on it. In the past of course we did put forward well known singers, Cliff, Sandie Shaw and Katrina spring to mind. And if course Blue.....

Would kill for the UK to stop trying to be so serious and just find a band who will pull off the most bizarre crap going. I was close to tears when Iceland came on last night. Embrace the cheese or go full blown Lordi

If I was from one of the central European countries there is No danger I would be voting for the UK regardless of the quality of the song.
Really liked the Czech Rep song but the rest of it was awful including the UK entry. The quality of it is a joke.
