 Railcard on Tesco points

For anybody contemplating a long expensive train journey this summer for holidays etc. - you can get a "free" £30 railcard using Tesco vouchers to the value of £10.

If you don't have ten quid in vouchers, you can still get the railcard at a reduced cost - multiples of £1 in Tesco vouchers redeems £3 in real money off the railcard cost - and all aspects can be completed online.

You need a passport size image - easy peasy, just scan your passport photo, crop it down and upload on the electronic application, there is a slider thingy which lets you reduce or enlargen the photo to fit the image window.

We got a "Two Together" card which saves 1/3 off both tickets - a nice little earner.

I applied yesterday and it arrived this morning !!!

"VEE...senior railcard not a better deal?"

I'm not 100% clued up - never used any railcard before, but I reckon a couple would need a SR each, whereas the Two Together covers both.

It has to be the two named persons, and both must be on the same journey, so obviously it can't be used by either travelling alone.

However it does not require to be a married couple, or partners - any two individuals, one of which is the cardholder, the other the additional named person.

Ideal for a pair of mates who regularly use the train for going to away games, for example.

Thing is, we'll save a decent bit more than £30 using it, so even buying it at normal rate is a no brainer.

The two together card pays for itself with a couple of trips to Edinburgh.
