Your bank needs to authorise your apple pay when you first register. They have to authorise every payment you make using apple pay. They will cancel your old card and put the new details on for you to save you doing it. To put it another way it’s your bank that controls your Apple Pay and not the other way about.
Agreed...I had to cancel my cards recently. Couple of the banks told me to expect updates from similar careless services as the linked card would be automatically updated.
