Cause we 'ate the gerries and we dunt want folk forgettin it, awriiiight?
The BBC has a fantastic comedy back catalogue so not sure why they continue to show something that's only beaten in repeats by Last of the Summer Wine.

Is that still being shown?
What channel?
I've no seen that for years.
Didn't like it that much... But I didn't know it was still being repeated.
Probably 6 or 7 years since I seen that

Dad's Army probably still gets decent ratings. That's why they show it. Also it's hardly jingoistic tub thumping anti German.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

The entire programme is about plucky but useless older white men taking on Germany. Sound familiar?

The problem with stupid people is they don't always realise they're stupid. Like voting for a party who will cut your benefits, increase your taxes (whilst lowering them for the wealthy) and increase your pension age. Then still voting for that party when they cut services to the bone before revealing a "spending bonanza", which is just the money they cut in the first place!

Dockyard workers were in a reserved occupation, so were in the Home Guard.
My Mother related the tale of seeing them, including my Dad and many of the other local men, running about the fields behind old Dollytown training with broomsticks because no rifles had yet been issued.
Her neighbour remarked drily “ Christ, is that all that stands between us and the ruddy Germans...”
A scene no doubt repeated the length of the land, personal experience of which influenced the writers of the series.

There were no rifles to issue in 1940 until the government bought a large supply from the USA to meet the shortage.
The P14 / P17 models seen in "Dad's Army" are historically accurate.
