 Celebrants - funerals
Topic Originator: rossmcno1

Hi all

Unfortunately I lost my dad on Friday, thankfully peacefully after a short battle with MND.

I now have the task of arranging the funeral and all that comes with it, and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a local celebrant. He wasn’t religious but did believe in a higher power, and with his passion for the Pars and life in general, I want to find someone that can capture that without too much churchy stuff. Any recommendations would be grateful, thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I can't suggest any particular person as I'm through in Falkirk, however the Humanist Society might be able to help. We attended the funeral of a very good friend to my wife and her siblings and the Humanist who led the service was excellent at capturing the person.

I've been to a couple of funerals where a humanist provided a much better insight into the person and also had people laughing.Which in the case of the second one and it's circumstances was remarkable, and raised the tone from utterly bleak and sombre to a celebration of the persons life and achievements. All I can remember is that he was called Neil and made a sad day happier and a memorable goodbye to a good pal.

Really sorry to hear that, Ross. A slight crumb of comfort in that it was a short battle with MND.

There's a stout, Irish man that is often at Dunfermline Crem doing services. I'm sorry I don't know his name, but he is very good.

Thanks everyone, have spoken to Graham Primrose and he will be leading the celebration of dads life.

My Dad, Kenneth Mc Clung’s funeral will be at Dunfermline Crematorium on Wednesday 30th October at 1.15pm.

It will be a celebration of his life and his times, and you are all welcome to join us. There will be laughs, tears and many happy memories. If you know someone who knew my dad but isn’t on social media please tell them and spread the word. If you didn’t know my dad but knew of him through me, you are welcome to come too and hear just how special he was.

No flowers please, and if you do wish to make donations then please do so to www.mndscotland.org.uk/fundraising/make-a-donation/

Please come dressed as you feel comfortable, dad never really took notice of my nagging of his dress sense ☺️ so be comfortable with what you wear.

After the service we will be meeting at the Hillpark Hotel (formerly Gladyer Inn) at Rosyth for a cuppa and a buffet.

Thank you all and we look forward to seeing you there for a great send off.
