I wanted to buy Humax receiver with internal hard drive to view and record Italian TV channels, as I already own a smart card and hard disk, but they're apparently sold out and discontinued.
I can get a Humax 4tune which is set up for German TV. If I use an Italian Tivusat card, should I be able to tune in to the Italian channels on the Hotbird satellite? I know I could buy it and return it if it doesn't work, but I'd rather avoid the hassle
Any advice greatfully received.

I bet you sit around all day watching Italian daytime soap operas all day, don't you...?
Frankly I don't blame you. If they're anything like the Spanish ones then they'll be a constant source of great mirth...
Quite often during working hours I have an opportunity to stop for a moment in a local hostelry to enjoy a swift cortado and a fag... I normally tend to frequent older, somewhat grottier establishments (possibly because I myself am older and somewhat grotty), and they inevitably have a soap opera on the telly, much to the entrancement of the ageing clientele.
Upon occasion, I myself have been so absorbed and wracked with conflicting emotions that I've spilled my cortado and been forced to order a carajillo, which is a splendid concoction consisting of espresso and a wee nippy sweetie of your choice. I take this, you understand, merely to calm my jangling nerves and to insulate myself from the gathering chill, since the nights, as they say, are fair drawing in..
Anyway, after I've finished watching Sergio confess to his wife (Carmen I think is her name) that he's been banging Maria the cleaner for six months, and Carmen falls about clutching her palpitating bosom and wiping uncontrollably at her fevered brow, while going full Mary Pickford/Sue Ellen for 5 minutes, I'm pretty well refreshed and ready for the challenges of the day...
On the other hand I could be completely wrong and all you watch is news and football...
Anyway, sorry for rambling, I hope you find what you're after
Cheers,
AWP

I see the dotnet comedians are out doing their stand up routine. 😃
AWP is a funny guy, Ipswich is a work in progress. I may have found a solution myself but I thought that asking a panel of Dotnet experts would save me a lot of research. 😉

Theres a section of their webpage where they sell refurbished kit. My last pvr was refurbed and like new when it came.
As a retired former public sector employee you probably don't have to worry about the price of things 😜 but you might find used ones on eBay.

Have managed to source a receiver which ticks all the boxes, thanks. It's a Technomate rather than a Humax but will do nicely.
Thanks to all who offered help and advice and to those who took the pith. 🙂
