Got a trip booked to Krakow in January for 5 days with the other half and looking for any hints and tips of things to see / do / avoid if possible. Already have trip to Auschwitz planned along with the salt mines but any hidden gems etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Schindler's factory, as seen in the film, is an interesting visit, now a museum.

We went to Krakow about 3 years ago.
Went to Auschwitz, salt mines, Schindler factory tour and also did a few walking tours as well, which included Jewish quarter and Castle.
We went in October and it was very warm, unexpected small heatwave for them at that time apparently, but I'd imagine in January it will be quite a bit cooler. Still would be a great time to visit I'd imagine.
City is very nice, people are friendly and food and drink are cheap. We did Auschwitz and salt mines on same day. Auschwitz was very interesting and the tour guides are very good at creating a harrowing image which I think brings home the reality of what things must have been like during those dark times. The salt mines were good but there is a lot of steps/walking involved.

Avoid Polish vodka at all costs. Lethal

Thinking in going in May for a week, but worried there might not be enough to do, is there any other day trips out of the city.
What's the best option for accommodation?

Thanks for the info, will have a look at the Schindler factory tour.

Expecting it to be cold but hopefully will be dry, in the words of my Dad - Will need to put the big coat on!

My wife was over to deliver training at her works Krakow office last week and I went out for the weekend to meet her.

Great wee pizza place called Pizza Loft, I'd highly recommend it. Lovely place although I didn't get to see as much of it as it was a flying visit and very foggy/rainy. Quite a picturesque place in the sunshine I believe.

If you see a sign in the bars for a drink called "Monty" go for it, hazelnut vodka and milk, tastes fantastic.
