Oh dear. The previous movie at least had some scenes which were semi memorable but this...... this film is just a mess. Too much crammed in and no chance to squeeze some extra cringe is passed up. Star Wars movies always flirt with being convuluted clap trap but this one just goes the whole hog.
4/10 and that's being generous.

I always set my expectations low for the Star Wars films so when I watch them if they're crap I'm not disappointed and if they're good they feel like they were better than they probably are!

Perhaps I'm being harsh but if you go into this one with low expectations you'll still come out dissapointed.

My kids' new favourite one.
Too sentimental and too much magic for my liking but exactly what I expected.

I quite enjoyed it, it’s 9th in a series of children’s films so anyone expecting anything other than a greatest hits of Star Wars has already set their expectations too high. Got what I expected and did what I expected and entertained the way giant blockbusters should for the duration.

For all the the badness of the prequels, at least they were the story Lucas wanted to tell. He didn't care about keeping fanboys happy, selling tickets for theme parks or tv series. He just shouldn't have surrounded himself with sycophants.

OK I admit it's not great (seen it tonight) and the "giving a nod to everyone who's ever been in any of the previous films" gets a bit tiresome... But on the plus side I thought the special effects were pretty good... And no sign of Jar jar.
It's quite weak... But watchable.... Just.
Worst of the recent ones that's for sure.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, up until the latest trilogy I'd only seen the original film and the clones one at the pictures, but my kids are and now I'm much more familiar with them than I ever thought I would be.
Three times in the last week I've mentioned this to folk and each time it's been met with the same response, literally the same two words: "that's controversial". So, to a wider audience, and now that I've seen the final one, I'll say it again "the prequel trilogy is the best of the three".
As much as aspects of them, the first episode in particular, might annoy some folk, it benefits from having an end point it moves along to, a story arc and all that guff. The first and third don't, they just ramble along with half a dozen folk having the same repetitive adventures.
As someone said above, these are kids films and they've been made over a period of 40 years. The thrill you remember in 1977 as a teenager of seeing The Death Star blown up for the first time isn't going to be repeated in 2019 in its umpteenth variation.
Just enjoy the ride, don't take it so seriously, it's kids' stuff. I hate the one with the gonks, but mine love it. The films are meant for them not me.

Yeah, the prequels definitely are better than people make out, the Darth Maul fight and music in Phantom Menace is probably one of the highlights of the whole saga. But there are just too many bad plotlines, actors and dialogue to make me like them better than the originals.
Force Awakens on the other hand, is the worst of the entire lot by a country mile. And I include the Holiday Special in that.

Script written by a child. Acting embarrassingly bad. Cameo appearances cringe worthy. J J Abrams highly overrated. Please no more star wars films.

I seem to be in a minority of one here as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very fast paced with superb cinematography, a very fitting farewell to Carrie Fisher and a clever script that made for a fitting finale. Best of the recent three imo

I can't stand Star Wars movies but quite enjoyed this one.
Although it does go on for 15 minutes longer than it needed to at the end.
My son really enjoyed it and can't see how anyone could dislike it.

Agree with Kosma, my first comment leaving the cinema was that it must've been written by a child. Then my 9 year old started questioning the dumb logic and coincidence that was 'the plot'and I realised that maybe I was being unfair on children.
The only Star Wars film my kids haven't enjoyed.

Saw it tonight and enjoyed it. I thought it was well paced and the story was ok. There were definitely a few dodgy, or not well enough explained, bits in the plot to carry you along but on the whole it was decent.
There were a few too many nods to old cast which was done more than enough in the past two films.
Worth going to see.

You've never seen a James Bond film?! I guess if you under a certain age then it's quite possible but surely if you are say, over 35, then you are if an age when you grew up with only four TV channels and those movies were festive day staples it would have been hard to avoid them.
And although my eyes were open

Just switch over. That's what I did to avoid James bond.
I have to admit to actually watching a couple of the Sean Connery films in the last few years.
Never seen a godfather film. Only ever seen the original star wars film. None of the others.
