I bought a classic Swiss cuckoo clock when we moved into our current home in 1989. Until recently, it's been a faithful, if sometimes annoying companion.
I'm now rather concerned for the bird's welfare. Lately, she has stayed in her nest and refused to regale or irritate us with her call, on the hour and half hour. On other occasions, she is making a complete pig's ear of the time. e.g. 12 chimes at 2 pm and even 14 chimes at 3 am. I'm beginning to think she might have the Auldtimers. ☹
Anybody know the average life span of a cuckoo? Maybe 31 years is really old for a bird? Do we have any vets on Dotnet?
Not your average Sunday League player.

If you measure her lifespan by that clock it's probably infinity.

Cue Parrot for expert advice.
Maybe in isolation with bird 'flu ?
Incidentally, when a Swiss timepiece goes wonky I suspect it's terminal decline !!!

How long do these clocks last? The movements in these cuckoo clocks are engeneered to last at least 30 years. If you maintain them right, you will be able to pass them down to your kids or grandkids.

I was amazed at what the clock specialist in the BBC’s repair shop does to refurbish old clocks.
First thing he does is clean the clock as the grease and dust gunk together to prevent correct operation
