For anyone looking for good books to read you should check out Mark Billinghams - DI Tom Thorne series.
I just pre-ordered his 17th book in the series. Its the 20 year anniversary this year from his first book. I remember buying the first one in an airport purely based on how cool the cover looked, i'm so glad I judged that book by it's cover LOL.
The new book is the prequel to the first one, set in 1996. The books are all set in London and follow Tom Thorne through his life troubles and police work. About 10 or so years ago Sky TV commissioned an extended drama across the first 2 books Sleepyhead and Scaredy Cat, David Morrissey played a great Thorne, although he looked nothing like the character I had in my head :-)
Anyways, started with Sleepyhead then Scaredy Cat and enjoy the full series !

I've read quite a few Billingham books (not as many as you though) and enjoyed each one.
I usually find it similarly disconcerting when a book is made into a TV series, or a film, with none of the characters how I imagined them to look. Rebus was the same for me.

GG741 Jack reacher was the worst for me In the books he is 6 feet five or maybe more and weighs 250lbs and they get Tom Cruise to play him ??

This a million times. Cruise did a decent job but he was the wrong stature.

Amazon are making a Jack Reacher series and the title character will be as physically impressive as he is in the books.
Amazon also do the series Bosch which is based on the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connelly. It's very decent and Titus Welliver looks like what many fans had imagined Bosch to look like.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Haven't met him personally, but he plays for a Tennis Club that's my tennis club's local rival. Everyone I've played against from his club has been a right tool.

The One Who Knocks:
I'm a fan of Bosch as well; recently finished the most recent TV series.
And yes, I would agree re the character in the book / TV series.
