I usually find Debenhams rates are OK but they're shut as are Tesco and although Asda kiosk just opened today they could only take cash as they had a problem with their card machine. Any suggestions locally?

Ramsdens in the Kingsgate always has the best rate online when I'm looking. Order on the web, pickup a couple of days later in the shop.

I usually use ramsdens. But the majority of the time I just withdraw abroad. It's no more expensive than converting cash going and coming back.

Revolut for me also . Use it in almost every country I visit. No hassle, free transactions to a certain limit. Easy

I tend to get a wedge from the post office or tesco (I'm sure tesco delivered to the house before) then use my Starling card for the rest.

Several "user friendly" cards (credit and debit) for taking cash at ATMs abroad.
I second IpswichPar, the Starling card account is an excellent choice.
If Spain and the Canaries are regular destinations I'd recommend a standard Santander current account and use your debit card at Santander branded ATMs - they have branches and machines "everywhere" there.......no fees (of any type) for cash withdrawals on their debit card.
Many foreign ATMs now charge their own user fee, regardless of which bank card is presented.
Check the Santander terms and conditions, the current account needs a minimum £500 monthly pay in to maintain this benefit - guess where my state pension goes !!!
It's also a decent everyday current account for the UK.
