Needs no explanation given the recent schools meals vote.

This is going to sound mean, but I don't see why any public sector body should have subsidised meals. I know Scottish Government do. When I worked in the public sector our meals were probably the opposite - so expensive that it was cheaper to go out!

The vast majority of public sector jobs don't pay that well (although there are noticeable exceptions such as council leaders etc) so I don't mind subsidised meals on that front but when it extends to MPs on salaries of more than double the national average its a bit silly.

I imagine they will just claim meals on expenses anyway regardless of price

The whole thing reeks of hypocracy. I don't understand why we are still using a relic of a building that will cost billions to upgrade. Also don't understand the second home allowance. Why can't the Government build or buy a building suitable to provide accommodation for MPs? Alternatively, why not move the Government to somewhere more central?

I've worked in the public sector and we never got subsidised meals or a travel paid for us (unless it was to an agreed conference and even then it was the cheapest way rather than the most efficient). Given how many cutbacks there have been in the public sector it surely needs asked why the Government, as our employees, think they deserve better.

Why am I subsidising the lunch of a millionaire but not of a vulnerable young person in England?
