The new housing estate in Crossgates ,where John Reids Joinery yard was ,is to be named Stuart Adamson Crescent, a fitting tribute .

That's fantastic. Always think it's a shame that Fife Council seems to have forgotten how to name streets in Dunfermline. All these new estates seem to be named after birds or have generic names like "Meadow something". Most of Duloch is named after birds apart from a few exceptions (Masterton after the estate, Dover after the hedge and assume McDonald after a previous owner).

Yes I always found ironic and sad that most of the streets in that concrete jungle are named after the very things that have been destroyed or had their habitat destroyed in the process. Talk about tactless. That’s councillors for ye.

Pitcorthie streets are named after the trees to took down, Duloch named after the birds that aren't there anymore and Masterton after a hedge, most of which isn't in Masterton! Fife Council are a laugh 😂

Wait until Broomhall starts and we'll have Marble Way, Parthenon Place, Lord Elgin Grove...

I had never gave Pitcorthie street names a second thought before...until now.

A lasting legacy to the destruction caused.

New houses need built of course but it is never done sympathetically to the area affected. Just level everything. Profits first.

Part of Calais woods was kept thankfully. Spent my childhood in there.

Abbey View of course had some street names that depicted such views. Calais View and Abbey itself .....where I was dragged up.

I remember Pitcorthie being built as I passed it everyday being bussed to Woodmill.
Was it not a farmhouse at the top of the hill surrounded by open fields, some with horse jumps on them?

Houses are getting tighter and tighter. If you look at the houses in Pitcorthie most are fairly small in terms of internal space but the detached ones tend to have external garages meaning wider gardens. Ones built in the 90s/00s went down an internal garage route meaning more bedroom space but less space between houses meaning smaller gardens. In a lot of cases the newest ones are even tighter as developers realise that a fourth bedroom is typically used as an office of study rather than a bedroom. So they steal a foot here and there and that eventually means you have 15 houses rather than 14.

Less green space means poor drainage etc etc.

Really good idea to name a street after Stuart Adamson though. I would like to see more streets named after some local heroes. How about a Bert Paton Street, Big Country Boulevard, Norrie McCathie Terrace, Nazareth Road, Barbara Dickson Grove, Rezillo Street etc.

I'd always say to wait until the person has passed. Especially right now when well loved celebs can turn out to be a bit questionable!

Pitcorthie was indeed built on farmland, Wester Pitcorthie farm house was located almost exactly where Pitreavie school is sited and Easter Pitcorthie pretty much the current footprint of the Barley Sheaf.

There was a patch of woodland called the North Wood which is still present to this day located just north of the crematorium.

Apologies for bringing some facts to a thread having a dig at Fife Council.

My dad who grew up in Kingseat says that they named one of their streets of new builds after a long term resident. Name escapes me, anyone from Kingseat able to confirm or deny? I think she maybe ran the post office?

I bet you a dollar

Russell avenue. I think it was Mrs Russell who had the shop beside the Halfway House. Shop is going to be turned back into a house. Currently gutted out. Halfway House is now completely gone. Going to be affordable housing. Seems a bit daft to me given anyone moving into Kingseat on a low-income will have to drive/bus it for their shopping or a job.

As a Kingseat boy, growing up there in the 60s / 70s, I can confirm that Jake89 is spot on. The Post Office / shop in Kingseat was indeed run by Lizzie Russell for all the time I can remember. Mrs Russell herself lived a very long life, stretching to over the age of 100.

Kingseat was an idyllic village in which to grow up, and even now I harbour huge affection for the village and the people who lived there.
