You do. But it doesnt cost anything. Ive always had it.
You just include use for your work.

If you can sort it out in the next 15 minutes your post wont be a totsl waste of time and effort.

That's interesting. A normal car insurance will provide commuting to and from work but does not include cover for using whilst working. You need full business insurance to do delivery work and this is not free....

Nope. Just include personal and business use. No extra charge. Always had it

It usually adds about £30 £40 to the headline policy price

That's funny. 30 years doing insurance and I apparently never learnt a thing.

Business insurance for a vehicle is more expensive than normal social, domestic and pleasure use including commuting.

You need to arrange insurance which covers hire and reward as per following quotes from insurer.

"What type of vehicle insurance do I need for food delivery?

Anyone driving their vehicle to make paid deliveries needs to arrange delivery driver insurance. Specifically, a form of commercial vehicle insurance called 'hire & reward' is what you need as a delivery driver—whether for fast food, takeaway, or parcel delivery.

Here is where the terminology gets confusing. While 'business use' vehicle insurance does not cover delivery driving, a form of 'commercial' vehicle insurance does. Some people use the words 'business' and 'commercial' interchangeably, but when it comes to insurance they mean very different things."

On top of that you may need to get public liability cover as per the following.

"Plus you may need public liability insurance

If you are a self-employed delivery driver then you should also take out public liability insurance. Public liability insurance covers legal costs and compensation payments if a third party (like a customer) claims you've caused them accidental injury or damage and sues you.

For example, if when you're handing over a bag of spaghetti bolognese the bag breaks and the pasta lands with a splat on a customer's white carpet, they could claim you're responsible for paying to replace carpet and sue you for damages."

There is a difference between business insurance and commercial insurance for delivery. Delivery is called hire and reward. Not a standard business insurance cover.

I called the insurance company when I was doing deliveries and told them what I was doing. They said fine...no increase.

I get your point about public liability but you would need to be a helluva salesman to convince me the probability warranted it.

Ill need public liability insurance when I start going out in the parrot suit again. Ill give you a shout when I do.

8 hours work for 25 quid? Is that even legal? I guess it depends how much these delivery fees are.
I noticed a guy waiting in his car during the week to do deliveries for our local chippy-he had the missus and a couple of toddlers in car seats in the car at 9pm. Not ideal

Depends how busy the shop is. If its a busy shop you can do very well. The £25 is for petrol and using the car. Standard fare.

From experience I would be surprised if you didnt make over £100 plus tips.

So does the full couple quid delivery fee when you order online go to the driver or do the restaurant get a cut?

From the £100 sounds like they do which is quite comforting since I never have any cash to give a tip any more despite wanting to. Shame the apps can’t add a tip for good service after the fact.

I helped out in a quiet shop once and made £60 for 7 hrs. Including tips and petrol money. in a busier shop I was doing £60 to £80 for 5 hrs.
Just depends on the phone ringing. The full delivery fee goes to the driver.

Not used that, I use Dunfermline Eats as it is meant to charge the restaurant less
