Excellent version of one of the greatest songs ever written.

Good effort but I`m with dave67 on this one. Prefer the original which is a timeless classic.

I love the Band and everything they did. The album ‘Rock of Ages’ is, in my humble view, one of the greatest live albums ever - if ever anyone lived the rock and roll lifestyle, they did. They left a very great legacy though.

There was a film of The Band’s farewell concert, guests included Dylan, Clapton, Neil Young, and many more. A wee highlight for me was Joni Mitchell singing Coyote - something about motel bed hopping if memory serves me well, it was over forty years ago!

Jeff Healy - good version but I still prefer the original

The Last Waltz certainly was an amazing collection of musicians, just shows what influence The Band had in those days

Joni Mitchell

and a classic version of The Weight with The Staple Singers

Thanks Par, much appreciated. Not seen that for many a year.
Joni, along with Joan Baez, two great artists and favourites of mine from way back.
Unfortunately Joni has suffered ill health in recent years. Joan still soldiering on, her Mum was born in Edinburgh and lived to 100 so that bodes well!

Joan Baez - to bring it back to The Band she does a great version of The Night They drove Old Dixie down. She is still touring I seen her in Edinburgh a couple of years back

Seen Joan Baez a number of times. Last time was on her farewell tour at the royal concert hall in Glasgow. She often mentioned her mother was Scottish.

Thanks again Par.

When she was in Edinburgh she took time out to have a look for where her grandad was a minister. Her mum had emigrated as a child but thought it was a wee church “somewhere at the bottom of Princes St” so, Joan strolls down to find he had preached from the pulpit of the mighty big St Johns Episcopal!

Her Mum was a feisty activist in her time, must have passed that on, where the protest singer came from.

Anyway need to download more stuff, the albums are long gone, miss listening to them on the multi wired stereo/headphones ...If you are interested “From every Stage” is a 1975 tour double live performance cracker.

It is a great album Parboiled, and Joni I doubt she will tour again.

Amongst the new artists I really like Courtney Marie Andrews a bit of a throwback to Joni and also the Weather Station who defiantly owes a lot to the legacy of Joni

Thanks Par, I’ll definitely check out both Courtney Marie Andrews and the Weather Station. Joni is one of my all time favourite artists - so many great songs, it’s well nigh impossible to choose a favourite. I’m the happy owner of an Airedale Terrier pup named Joni, in her honour.
