I did not know this was even a thing until today. My sister in law asked for £300 to get the dog back from the vet as it was going to be put down, I assumed this was to save the dog. My jaw hit the floor when my misses told me that the dog had already died and the money was for the cremation and ashes to be returned.
Has anyone else done this or is planning on doing this when there pet passes?
I had already parted with the cash prior to the full picture being painted for me.

Sane thing happened to me with my last cat, I found out it ain't even their ashes you get as they do numerous pets at the same time.
At the time it was easily sorted out with a stern "Get me my ******* cat now".
Admittedly legalities may have changed since then...

Our vet tried that one on as well when they put our cat down, I just took it up the road and buried it in the front garden, in the spot where she used to lie down in the morning sun. It's easy enough to did a hole if you get them before the rigamortis sets in. The cat before that was a bit tougher as it had been dead a few days when the neighbours found it in their garden so her limbs needed a bit encouragement.
Tbh I grudged paying money to have it put down. When I grew up we had a bucket of water for that

Article says £30-50 to be put down + £150-200 for cremation so £200 seems average.
Sadly been through this a few times over the last few years. Never experienced anything underhand. All options explained, no pressure. Sure there's an element of cashing in, in your time if grief but just giving you choices, and no more so than other vets fees.
Standard cremation would be with other pets, and no ashes returned. You can pay more to have them cremated on their own and the ashes returned. If getting them returned you also choose the packaging for the ashes - from a fancy urn to a patterned cardboard tube.

Yep, same with my vet, offering treatment for thousands of pounds, I was like "its old, and it only cost 20 quid, I'll just get another 20 quid cat when it does have its last Dreamies"

Not everyone thinks of their pet as a disposable commodity. In fact I'd say you're in a minority on that.
Not to say that there's anything wrong with declining to pay for treatment. Usually they're quite pragmatic in offering treatments when the find you have no insurance to cover it.
I had an opposite experience when our 16 year old cat was ill. Vet was saying he was old and maybe it was his time. We had to push back to ask if there's was any other options (we felt like we owed him that much after 16 years). Vet kept him in overnight on a drip and he perked up. He lived for another 5 years after that.

Our vet was brilliant. Really clear that our cat could live another 2 weeks or 2 years. In the end we had him out to sleep as he was obviously in a bad way (heart failure and was panting, lethargic etc). To this day I'm convinced the neighbour poisoned him. She had a beautiful garden and he enjoyed nothing more than going in there for a good crap.

Look...
First of all you posted "I wish someone would poison the two dogs near me... non stop barkingCan’t actually sit in my garden anymore as it loud".
As an animal lover I find this comment abhorrent and your lucky you didn't get a yellow for it.
Then you post a joke about setting a dog on fire... Again, your lucky you didn't get a second yellow which would be a red.
You're in no position to claim the high ground here after posting that sort of thing.
Have a good look at yourself.
And a wee word to the wise...
Any more of it and you will be removed.
Let it go...

I wonder how many animals a year are poisoned by neighbours or people without animals a year. I suspect it is a reasonable amount.
Cats will do their business somewhere relatively quiet and safe. The reason is that whilst doing their business is a perfect time for them to be attacked by other animals. Not the first time one of my cats came in covered in their own cr&p. They have got better at avoiding scrapes as they have got older.

Obviously it goes without saying that poisoning someone`s pet is absolutely unacceptable and can`t be justified.
However when someone`s pet takes a crap in someone`s garden then it`s on the pet owner to make good that situation.

For clarity - the neighbour never once spoke to us about it. We just assumed as he never crapped in our garden apart from that one time when we out a gravel path in and...
The neighbour was a horrible woman. Would never say hello and would do petty things like park across our drive or put her bins right on the boundary. One day I was getting out my car as she parked hers partly across ours (white line) and I asked if she could move up a wee bit as she had tonnes of space. She lost it and went off on one about our white line being on "her" bit of the road. Will point out that there was nothing stopping her from putting a drive in herself (flat front garden with stone chips) but she chose to park on the road. She was raging when a young couple moved in next door to her and had two cars as they'd park in "her" spot now and again. Her retaliation would be to park incredibly close to their bumper (and across my drive!).
Back to the cat - he had a tray in the house but never used it. We also had fences round the garden so little else we could do. There were a lot of cats in the area (evidenced by the number of vet trips for scratched eyes and infected bites!) so he wouldn't be the only one.

There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop your cat crapping anywhere it wants. You can train a dog and they don't get out on their own anyway. Its really down to the garden owner to do what they can to deter cats.
There are various gadgets available to do this humanely.
If everyone kept their cats in it would result in a massive problem with vermin. I would prefer the odd crap to a rat or mouse infestation. I know how many my cat brings in almost daily, let alone what she kills and doesnt bring home...and thats just one cat.

Spoken by a lazy owner.
Cats can actually be trained to do the toilet wherever you choose, but if you don't try and are happy to let them dump anywhere it'll be impossible.
It's fine though, just let the neighbours deal with your problem animal.
Rubbish.

I often see my cat swaggering up and down the street, like a feline Liam Gallagher, carefully selecting where he will be doing his business. Strangely enough, he always seems to do it in the garden of the people who are among the most obnoxious in the street. I suspect they have been nasty to him at some point and this is his way of sticking two fingers up at them. He also likes to pee on the number plates of all the cars in the street too. I see him going from one to the other until he has none left. Weirdly, he never does the toilet in my garden. I have tried to talk to him, to explain that this behaviour is unacceptable but he doesn't listen.

It wouldnt. It would just cause trouble.
What exactly do you expect the cat owner to do.
They can dig and maintain a soft patch in their own garden and keep a litter tray in the house, which will help. Ive tried this but my cat will not use the tray. I have tried nany different mediums.
Even with these measures a cat will still use other soft soil if it comes across it.

Surely vets are similar to mechanics doing MOT. Some will say your car is fine whilst others err on the side of caution and may note things that *could* being going wrong on your car.
When our cat died one of the other suspicions was he'd had a heart defect since being born but they'd never checked. Maybe if he'd been checked early on he'd still be with us.

About 18 months ago my elderly neighbour was stranded in his driveway with a flat battery and shouted over the fence for some help.
Wandered round and he was visibly upset - dressed in a full suit and black tie - turned out he was away to his 'slot' for cremating his German shephard which had passed away.
Unbeknown to me said dog was sitting in the back of his wee van and, worse still, this was the Tuesday after a bank holiday weekend so the poor bugger had had the dead dug lying in his kitchen from the Thursday night when she passed away right through to the Tuesday morning when he was away to have her cremated (think it was Larkhall or Lanark ?).
I'm assuming that is not normal protocol but itnwas certainly a unique and surreal experience !!
