 Restriction Easing

So, down saaaath, the restrictions are being eased from 2 weeks today.
How does everyone feel about that?
The same will happen up here soon, and I`m a little apprehensive to be honest.
Some on here said it would never happen and that the government want to control us.......how do you feel now?
Genuine question......it`s now or will soon be in our own hands.
Numbers, hospital admissions, deaths all on the up.....what happens now?
I for one think it has to happen now or never....certainly not this year.
That will mean little to the vulnerable who cant go back to work, but will have a difficult choice to make.
I suspect carnage in the near future.

I feel really upbeat about this. Said before it’s all about personal risk assessment. I’ll not be rushing back to busy environments, but happy to make the choices that are right for me.

Living with COVID must now be balanced with mental health.
How much of the apprehension people face is due to the mismanagement by our governments?

The pendulum needs to swing again. We will find the right balance.

Seems like a strange approach to find out where the edge of the cliff is by jumping as far as you can and see where you land.

I am really in two mind`s on this. Part of me thinks let the devil take the hind most and part of me thinks that they should be more forceful with the controls already in place. Here in Bradford it feels like the restrictions were lifted a couple of weeks ago. Covid cases are rising at a pace across the district. As it happens it is the more affluent areas that have seen the biggest rises in cases. Last week the published data said that there were 32 people with covid 19 in the district`s hospital`s with 2 in ICU. If the data is to be believed although covid is spreading at a pace it doesn`t seem to be as potent as it was. The Bradford district has a population of approximately 550 thousand so really the numbers are not as bad as I thought they would be.

89% of the adult population have had 1 dose of vaccine and 65% both. By September we will be well above the estimated threshold for herd immunity.
There is absolutely no way we are going back in to lockdown in September unless a new variant occurs that the vaccine doesn't protect against.

I will be very cautious .. I have to be .. I will still wear my mask in shops .. but we do need to get back to some sort of normality .. for many reasons .. The signs are that covid is spreading again and Scotland is the worst in Europe allegedly ..Time will tell

i`m not concerned or will be overly cautious... but this whole experience has really made me re-evaluate what sort of things i`ll be doing/spending my time and money on...

for example...

pubs are done for me - much better ways to socialise with friends than going into a generally noisy, smelly, busy, expensive environment where I can hardly hear what folk are saying, having listen to other people`s music, etc (in fact my alcohol consumption has dropped to virtually nothing and I feel so much better for it)

supermarkets, no more spending time going round them as we`ve started getting click and collect and hello fresh - works out so much cheaper as not spending ages going round asda and ending up putting crap in the trolley that I don`t need, e.g. chocolate, biscuits, processed rubbish to bung in the oven, booze, etc)

up town, there`s no way i`ll be going into town and aimlessly wandering round the shops for a look as something to do or simply to get out the house... again what waste of time and probably money when you end up buying stuff you don`t need. much better / more productive things to do and/or ways to get out the house things that i`ll be spending my free time on

Fair comments, DBP

I`m surprised they are removing all restrictions in one step. It`s a gamble. Let`s hope it doesn`t backfire?

Not sure how this will work, as someone said yesterday, catching a train London to Edinburgh no mask up to Berwick, then having to wear one?

Can see lots of punch ups!🤔😷

They've just extended covid powers for 5 years, I'll believe it when I see it, the rhetoric has already started for the next carrot and stick....there will be a shiny new variant just in time.

The change in discussion from a clinical standpoint and how it disconnects with the government is interesting for me. For example
Question: For people fully vaccinated are the symptoms the same as previously stated (cough, sense of smell, etc)
Answer: no.
Sneezing is now the most common sign.
How many people were aware of that change in symptoms on this forum.
Loss of smell is now 8th most common symptom with loss of breath in the high 20’s most common symptoms.
If you were aware of this from the public education of the media then this is good. Otherwise the media is not forming the correct education of people in the UK.

Vaccinated or not, the key thing should be for people to stop being selfish - stay at home if you're ill!

COVID can be treated like flu, but we need to remember it is far more contagious.

Masks I can give or take. Unless they are proper ones the benefits are limited. Again though, if you have a cough - STAY AT HOME.

One of the benefits of COVID is more people are comfortable doing an online shop. Personally, I prefer going to the shop as it gets me out. However, I definitely take DBPs point about online reducing how much crap you buy. I'd do it more if Aldi and Lidl offered a delivery service.

I do think though that people need to get back to proper socialising. We need pubs, galleries, theatres, cinemas, bowling etc reopened.

I tested positive last Thursday. It developed next 2 days and really kicked in on Sunday. Thought I just had a sniffle from working in the garden in the rain. No sore head or cough. Just a runny nose.

Symptoms probably masked by paracetomol and Ibuprofen I was taking for other ailments.

No idea how I caught it I am always careful.

Glad I had the jags. If its this bad with them I hate to think what state I would be in otherwise. Im knackered just writing this.

I recon we have to try to get back to normal sometime and there is always going to be a spike when we make that effort. So long as hospitals are coping and deaths are very low I think we should start getting back to normality, but I would suggest keeping masks and continuing to sanitise hands
For a while yet. You really dont want to catch this.

I watched it this morning and didn't think he said any such thing but thought I may have missed it.
So thanks for making me listen to this a-hole again to check.
I'm sure he doesn't say what you claim at all.

Here is a link to the full interview. If I have missed it in the interview can you tell me how far in he says it.

Usual half a story posted to suit your agenda!
Those who are double vaccinated can catch & carry the virus but are far less likely to get seriously ill. The unvaccinated are far more likely to catch & carry & suffer serious illness!

I don't think it's ever been suggested those vaccinated aren't able to catch or spread COVID. However, they are less likely to suffer serious symptoms.

A friend of mine and his partner are both very ill with COVID. Both double-vaccinated and both fit and healthy. They have been very careful but it was brought into their household via a fairly long chain that started with someone who had tested positive not isolating.

Hoping they'll be okay but can only imagine what they'd be like if not vaccinated. To be clear - both fit and healthy. Not overweight, not lazy, no underlying health conditions, in their 40s.

You could paste the text link and then it can be copied. I'm struggling to see where it was said in the GMTV interview but that may be a different interview.

It was on the BBC interview he said it rather than GMB

Any rational person would understand that he more than likely misspoke, instead we see all the usual idiots sharing it around social medial like it’s some sort of revelation

How can they possibly link sneezing with covid. Pollen count through the roof, so that'll be the main driver for sneezing.

The data from the COVID 19 study from Zoe with 5 million contributors in the UK has shown the main symptoms of people who have been infected with COVID 19 with dual vaccinations as follows in the order of reported symptoms of people who have been infected and take part in the survey.

1: Headache
2: Runny nose
3: Sneezing
4: Sore throat
5: Loss of smell

Hope this helps
