What’s going on? Should we withhold some of our council tax for a service we are not getting ?
It`s bloody tough being a legend

Unfortunately you can’t legally withhold council
Tax. All that will happen is a 10% fine.
Large amount of covid cases is the line being given.
Wait till Union ballot is done as the Union bringing them
Out on full pay till councils agree to pay proposals.

What was their excuse pre COVID though?
Fortunately we’ve been ok with our ones recently but had plenty of issues in the past.

It's an absolute rip off down here. Feel like we get very little for our 300 quid a month.
The folks on the bin lorries work hard but won't take more than 3 rubbish bags and 4 garden waste bags a fortnight.

COVID isolation is the issue plus I'd imagine similar issues around the licences needed to drive a lorry. I'd heard there's only two guys on them just now when normally there's three.

£300 a month - what size of gaff do you have ?

Nothing massive! They managed to map some new homes to the wrong council tax bands (in my view).
There are 400 grand houses that are mapped to Band G and some houses over 700k at Band F where we live. The jump from one to another is mental.

We pay around £275 for an average sized detached in Dunfermline. No double garages or gardens the size of football pitches or anything!
I believe they whacked up the price on the higher bands a few years ago. Those on lower bands only had a modest increase.

Ipswich - have you challenged this formally ?
There is an appeal system, no idea how it works in practice.
Time we had a local income tax - but that`s another story.

I did. Had to pull together an appeal and met some folk at a dodgy hotel.
They complimented me on the best report that they had ever seen as part of the process and then rejected my appeal 😀
As the next step was to take them to the High Court and risk the costs for both sides I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and gave up.
For anyone who buys a house in the affected area I'm offering my support for their appeal but that's about the best I can do now. Still thinking about writing to our MP as well but I suspect that'll be deaf ears territory.

I`d bump up the tax on all those living in a house higher than band A.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Too simplistic. Size of property does not necessarily reflect the occupants income or ability to pay.

They already did bump everyone up.
Back in 2017 my bill went up by £400. For band A it went up £20.
Basically, it was a 2% rise at band A vs a 20% rise for band G.
No doubt our house is bigger than a band A but it's not exactly palatial 😂
Also a 2 bed semi in Edinburgh is probably the same price as a 3 bed detached in Dunfermline but I can guarantee the Edinburgh house is on a lower banding.

Sorry but as a band A i say you G types should be squeezed and squeezed hard. And just for good measure have your bin collections reduced as well.

Away min. You`ll have enough space in your own garden. I hear it has two mp`s. Jake`s Garden East and Jake`s Garden West.

You'd be lucky to fit two MPs in my garden (and that's not a reflection on the size of the average elected member!)

I worked for the council up until a few years back and quite frankly it’s a mess. If it was a private business it would have went bust years back. The only way to get promoted is to kiss @** or join a wee running “club”.
The people in management are clueless, have their set ideas and won’t listen to anyone that points out any issues and because it’s all friends at the top.. if you do try and point anything out you are branded a troublemaker and life is made difficult.
I remember a member of the group being asked to interview for a night shift managers post that had come up despite not being able to drive and having no way of getting to the office for night shift. Now despite there being many better candidates for the role they gave it to this person and immediately did a reshuffle so they would only have a dayshift role (basically they stuck someone else on a constant backshift despite their protests)
There was someone who went to the Dunfermline Press about how bad the contact centre was a few years ago (wasn’t me) but I’d witnessed everything they claimed including bullying.
I’m afraid the more this goes unchecked the worse it’s gonna get for everyone. The bins will be the top of an iceberg. The amount of money they waste is phenomenal

Council tax bandings are a shambles. Definitely the case that new builds are propping up the older houses. Not sure the reasoning behind that.

The issue with tax based on current capital value as opposed to income is
firstly, it’s not liquid (so it can’t be spent), secondly, it goes up and down in value (did everyone’s council tax get cheaper in 2008?)
Thirdly, it incorrectly implies earnings, but not everyone purchased at current market rate or even paid the full amount (mortgage, Inheritance, interest only)
Fourthly, you may not even own the capital asset in question (renters)

I suppose its a convenient, rough proxy for wealth and consumption of resources (typically more folks in a 5 bed house than a 1-bed apartment). But even at that they don't set a level playing filed in terms of bands of older houses (not to mention the free maintenance of common areas for older estates).

Whereabouts are you, Raymie? Been collected no bother in Duloch. They've been a bit later in the day maybe.

"Bins not collected again. That’s three weeks in a row."
A call to your local councillor appears long overdue.
