The ladies team are known to practice at the Peak in Stirling - apparently Eve had the option of specialising in golf, but chose the ice curling.

With Scotland's rugby and football (men and women) squads all doing better than in recent years, Josh Taylor as undisputed world boxing champion, it's quite a good time for Scottish elite sport.

I think Scotland is probably the most successful sporting nation on earth per head of population.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

That's a big claim!
For team sports, probably only in curling is Scotland in the top half-dozen. Rugby union is maybe next - hopefully we'll do well in the World Cup, but usually there are at least six teams better than us. Relatively few countries play each of these sports
And while there are always going to be individuals from any country who are the best in the world, I can't think of many Scottish sportsmen or sportswomen who currently or recently could claim that - Chris Hoy certainly, but others?

Spot on, we have had loads of World Champions- Drew McIntyre, WWE World Champion wrestler, Tom Stoltman, World's Strongest Man. Ken Buchanan, Jim Watt, Benny Lynch, Josh Taylor, Shirley Robertson, Chris Hoy, Alan Wells, the Elaphant Polo Team, and that's just off the top of my head

Stephen Hendry and Jocky Wilson too, if we count them as sportsmen. I don`t think there`s any acknowledgment of Jocky anywhere in Kirkcaldy; even the Lister Bar no longer exists.

I read a while back that we are certainly one of the most successful sporting nations.
Add in to the above we also have world record holders in round the world cycling both men and women’s records.
Plenty swimming champs over the years too, gold medals and a few world record times.
Our Olympians usually gather more than 10% of Team GB total.
Our football team tend to under achieve…..or do they?
For a nation of five million we have qualified for seven? WC finals , that would compare favourably with similar sized nations I think.
Domestically our teams have contested 7/8? European finals…..again better than similar sized nations …..
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

"For team sports, probably only in curling is Scotland in the top half-dozen."
Curling is maybe not the best example if you are saying "on earth" since relatively few countries compete internationally, despite the game growing in popularity at grass roots level.

Very few countries play Test Match cricket but I can`t imagine they`re too bothered about that when they win any of the various international competitions.

Curling is played more widely than might be imagined. The World Curling Federation has 66 member associations. Scotland are currently ranked 4th in Europe and 8th in the world. The countries ranked above them are Sweden, Switzerland, Korea, Russia, Canada, USA and Japan. China are 9th and Denmark 10th.

`I think Scotland is probably the most successful sporting nation on earth per head of population.`
We do pretty well...but I think there are a few ahead of us...
Norway topped the Winter Olympic medal table not so long ago with a population smaller than ours. They have a pretty decent football team too, and the number 1 male Norwegian tennis player is ranked higher than Scotland`s number 1.The Ingebrigtsen`s are about the only Non-Africans able to compete at the highest level in middle distance running and Karsten Warholm just smashed one of the longest standing Athletics records of all time.
New Zealand have made it to the final of 3 of the last 4 cricket tournaments in the world, and are the current world test champions. They are also pretty decent at Rugby (both codes) as well as producing an NBA all star - something Scotland haven`t managed yet.
As I say, we don`t do badly, but I reckon those two are some distance ahead of us.

There is a Greatest Sporting Nation per Capita cup if you believe in that sort of thing.Surprisingly Slovenia are leading this year after Norway won for the last 4 years. Only figures for the United Kingdom unfortunately
https://greatestsportingnation.com/content/slovenia-tops-capita-cup-table-after-october
That`s interesting. GB are 29th. I would imagine Scotland would be a lot higher up the table if we weren`t lumbered with the rest of that feckless lot.
It takes a nation of millions to hold us back

The women`s curling team have now qualified to represent GB at the Winter Olympics by winning a qualifying tournament in the Netherlands. They lost their first 2 round-robin matches then won 6 in a row to pip Japan and Korea.
