House Insurance - just got my renewal quote. Cover has increased by £20,000 but premium has REDUCED by £150 a year. I wonder if this is to do with recent government legislation? Anyone else had a similar experience?

My renewal quote was way up on last year but by switching I reduced the annual increase to about a fiver.

Buildings and contents insurance have dropped as the claims have dropped. This is as a result of people working from home and there being less break ins. Together off course with people also just generally being at home more with COVID, self isolation etc

Car insurance is similar as there have been fewer accidents due to there being less vehicles on the roads.

This info is from my friend who is an insurance actuary.

I`d imagine car insurance is down due to less claims from less people commuting.

Will no doubt go back up again once we return to normality (whatever that may be).

Must be subjective though; my S4 went up about twenty quid a year whilst the wife`s Sportage renewal was down over £100.

New rules that mean they have to give existing customers the same deal as new customers.

Great for folk who aren`t on the ball, not so great for pro-active folk who change every year for the best deals.
