Thanks VEE,
Bargain indeed. I got one to replace my 20 year old DVD player, which had a SCART connection and no HDMI. It takes up a lot less space than my old DVD player.

I’m feeling nostalgic.
Any source for a 12” telly with one channel and a transistor radio you can just about hear Radio Luxembourg on if you press it to your lug?

If you want to watch old or obscure/classic films, DVD is still your only option - Amazon/Netflix don’t generally have them. Standard definition is fine - especially with your 12” telly! None of this new fangled 4K nonsense.

Exactly - I took Netflix some months back and started watching Yellowstone, before they pulled it.
Then I found it at USA 5 on Freeview which was only one episode each Saturday - stopped a couple of weeks ago after series 2, obviously they didn’t have the rights for anything more.
Tracked it down on Amazon Prime for series 3 - but series 4 not up yet for the UK.

There used to be loads of westerns back in the b/w telly days - Gunsmoke, Laramie, Bonanza, Maverick, Cheyenne, Rawhide, to name but a few.
Another long runner was Wagon Train, which related the stories of those involved in that long trek west across mountains, prairies and deserts, defying dastardly outlaws and injuns to find a better life. But..did it ever get there?

I mind when Eric Fleming who played trail boss Gil Favour (?) was killed in a film making accident in South America.

VEE, there is now a prequel to Yellowstone, 1883, which you might be interested in. Goes back to when the ranch was established post Civil War.
On Paramount. Well it is now, lord knows where it will be next week!

I’ve decided to hold off on 1883 until we know where it’ll be - as you rightly indicate.

Can someone summarise Yellowstone for me? I`ve seen various clips and it looks like a lot of kicking the crap out of people/murder but never any police involvement.

Hope you’re sitting down vee…
There is another prequel in the pipeline, which was originally titled 1932 , but is now 1923. This will be a sequel to the above mentioned prequel but also a another prequel to the original series…keep up at the back
No expense spared for this one, starring Harrison Ford an Helen Mirren no less
Oh, and there’s a spin-off called 6666 which is set in Texas. That’s not the year..obviously…err…

By `region free` d`you mean it`ll play all regions? I sometimes fancy an Australian DVD that I can`t get on Region 2 or 0, so that could be good for me.

Hi VEE - according to Google, a `region free` player will `typically` play all regions, so I`d have to be unlucky if it didn`t. Sure is tempting.

There must be a dvd of Aussie themed musical treats - “ “my boomerang won’t come back” “the pub with no beer” “waltzing Matilda” “Skippy the kangaroo” to name but a few…
Also that epic of the outback “I was raised in a wallaby’s pouch” and “tips on seducing a Sheila” all two of them - tips not Sheilas that is.

Doncha just love the banter though?
From `Australian slang`:
Number 20. Bastards
Often used to refer to the British, or anyone who doesn`t play fair. The last Australian to be shot by an English firing squad in the Boer War, Breaker Morant, famously shouted his last words: "Shoot straight, you bastards!"
During the infamous 1932-33 Bodyline cricket series, English captain, Douglas Jardine, walked into the Australian dressing room to complain about being called a bastard. An Australian cricketer supposedly asked his team: "Which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard?"
In politics, a third party, the Australian Democrats, was formed in the 1970s to "keep the bastards honest." `

Apologies for pedantry - the firing squad was from a Scottish regiment, Gordon Highlanders.

That`s CNN for you. An easy mistake to make no doubt: Scotland/England - they`re the same aren`t they?

Apparently the trial of Morant and others is a controvertial issue; writing for Australian Veteran News, James Unkle claims,
`For the past decade I have pursued justice for the descendants of Morant, Handcock and Witton. Australians have long believed that they were scapegoats for Kitchener’s controversial “take no prisoners” policy and that the trial process was flawed.`
