 Cork based internal insulation?
Topic Originator: DBP

Has anybody got this stuff fitted?

We have an old house with basically brick and plaster walls and our heating bills are more expensive than our mortgage either now.

I don’t have the space to put a stud wall up and fill with insulation but saw this cork spray on stuff online that is supposed to be very good?
No idea what it costs mind you

I’m always the skeptic so wondered if anyone had any experience of it?

My next door neighbour who lives in a Victorian house put on an external cladding, a render was then put on the top of it, leaving a smooth finish.

He said it made a big difference to the temperature inside his house, don`t know what it was made from, I thought it looked like a fibreboard panel maybe 4×4.

He works in the building trade so he did it himself.

Cladding on a Victorian house? That surely looks hideous?

All the SHA houses at Pitcorthie have it.

This stuff is sprayed on the inside walls 8mm thick and then you can skim over it, so total thickness is 10mm

Supposed to reduce bills by 15%?

LA says EXTERIOR though. Surely not? It looks fine on modern houses IMO and is reported to work effectively. I figure the council and housing associations wouldn`t use it otherwise.

The estate to the north of aberdour rd at linburn rd end had that external insulation added a couple of years back. Looked like it was a good 100mm thick or more so it should make a difference.

There is no change to the look of the external wall, it was a smooth finish before the work and a smooth finish after.
