 BT price rise
Topic Originator: Milos Drizzle
Date:   Mon 27 Feb 13:20

Just got a letter from BT saying they are increasing prices by a whopping 14.4%! That’s the CPI rate plus 3.9%. Not sure where they get the 3.9% from, but there you go. Seems a rather savage price increase, but they are claiming it’s part of my contract, which it will be, and I’ll just have to suck it up until the end of my contract when I can shop around.

Isn`t an annual increase of CPI rate +3.9% built into all phone deals? For us pensioners there is the comfort of knowing our state pension for the new tax year will benefit by the rate of inflation because of the `triple lock`. I got a letter recently which indicated my state pension will increase by 14.75% in April!

Quite possibly is built into phone contracts. Though quite what the connection is between the price to the consumer of pasta and washing machines to the cost of running BT is anyone’s guess. Pensions, on the other hand, should be locked into those.

Pretty sure there`s a clause whereby you can leave if they raise the price. I`ve done this in the past with Virgin. What they`ll likely do is offer to match the previous price.

Haven`t you benefited from the triple lock, Bpp? I seem to remember you lobbying for it when it looked like the government wasn`t going to apply it at one point.

I think 10.1% applies to those who retired after 2016. There`s a different calculation for those who retired before then.

Never had a phone contract. Complete rip-off. Been with Giffgaff for years. £10 a month when I started about 8 years ago, still £10 now.
In fact they said my usage on data was so low they suggested I went down to £8 a month. Just stayed at the £10 though

Ours came in the mail about a week past - but we qualified a wee bit before that date.

Yep I`d clocked this so was ready for this eye watering increase. I`m with EE too so of course it`s exactly the same doing.

With regard to state pensions, are there still bozos out there who think Ruk DWP will continue to pay ours post Indy?
Or, if god forbid, Scot Gov assumes responsibility that they won’t make a complete balls of it?

If you can prove your Scottish you`ll still get it with a generous enhancement . You will get a one way ticket back to where you came from.

Sure that`s your State Pension, doesn`t increase till April?

British Coal seems to be the only one giving 14% and that was applied January.
