Isn`t everyone the same though? They still base it off prices from the 90s. I always wonder if they reband properties after extensions. My neighbours house (built at the same time) is a band lower on the basis of it being slightly smaller...but he`s done a garage conversion and has a very nice garden room.

Well well, who would have thought that Buspass and LA were members of the land owning bourgeoisie!

Should be abolished and replaced by local income tax.

Council tax is an odd one. As mentioned, it makes little sense on my street. To our right we have a neighbour in a marginally smaller house, to the left marginally bigger. I can`t remember what band we are but I think it`s G. The neighbour in the slightly bigger house is also G yet the one in the slightly smaller house is F. The difference in square footage must be tiny but it will have been based on what the houses were sold for when built.

We also have varying numbers living in our homes. Purely by chance, the biggest house has the fewest people living in it and the smallest has the most.

You`ll also need to explain to me how someone in the same band in Chelsea is paying less than I am 😂

This is where a local income tax would make far more sense.

Every home is allocated one of eight bands, A to H. The banding is based on the value of your home at 1 April 1991.

We are band F

Does pool size come into it?

If you extend your house it doesn`t change the banding. But when the house is sold it could be re-banded.

You are absolutely correct.
Why did it not happen?

Because the Labour Party who were in power in Westminsrer at the time, said they would withhold £400m in Council Tax benefits going to the poorest in Scotland if the SNP went ahead with their plan.
It wasn`t the SNP`s plan not to go ahead with it, it was sabotaged by Gordon Brown.

Haven`t Labour been out of power since 2010?
Anyway I`m in a band A house (proper working class you see) so I`m quite happy with the way things are and in fact would quite like to see you upper middle class types in higher bands squeezed even more.

We did a loft extension to our house in 1994, a building inspector came out to issue completion certificate and I thought a revaluation. He told me rebanding wouldn`t happen until it was sold, so still Band C.

Yes they have, thing is the Conservatives are dead against a local income tax, favouring a return of the poll tax or something very similar.
They have seen how a local income tax replacing council tax in Scotland can be halted. Do you honestly think they would not resist it? Do you think SNP have not reintroduced it because they are against it?
Or do they know it has no change because the Tories will pull exactly the same trick as Labour did in 2007 to scupper it.

The tax for chateau de tink has sky rocketed. One is thinking about renting out the west wing but good decent people are so hard to find these days. Can`t have any old riffraff in here with us. I have standards you know.
Either that or one will cash in some of ones shares in skittles and flip flops.
Or as a last resort one might need to sell the yacht....she`s a beauty but one very rarely uses it. Who has the time to sail ...between the gentlemans club and the tennis and croquet and golf with the occasional dinner party here and there ones social calendar just doesn`t afford one the time to hoist the sails any more .
Anyway ... Must pop off ...the Aston is coming back from its service soon.
Toodle pip .

Some years back a householder in Bridge of Allan challenged their Council Tax banding - wanted it raised - assumed it would increase the selling price value !!!

Keeping Up Appearances mindset !!!
