I was wondering how busy it was at that time of the morning from Halbealth ?

Used it once before, some years ago - we joined at Ferry Toll - the bus was nearly full on arrival there but the driver somehow managed to get everybody onboard.

I don`t really fancy having to stand all the way from Inverkeithing at my tender age !!!

Whenever I`ve got on at halbeath it`s been easy enough to get a seat
It might be worth checking as some of the earliest ones start in the town ( that might have changed right enough)

Last time I had to go to the airport, I got the train to Edinburgh Gateway and then the tram for 5-10mins into the airport terminal.

Don`t know how early you need to go, but trains leave Dunfermline from 6:26am.

Used that before aswell
Think the 747 is quite a bit cheaper than the train/tram option from memory

It is cheaper but only by a couple of quid I seem to recall. The train/tram option might be a better option if the OP is concerned about lack of seating.

The flight is 06:30 so we need to be there a couple of hours beforehand following airline advice - therefore it`ll be the early doors 747.

Going by TSHP`s advice it sounds as if there should be no dramas.

If only Stagecoach would allow prebooked seats like other coach groups.

Leaving from Dunfermline bus station is not an option - nowhere to leave the car.

Why not park at Halbeath

Parking at Halbeath will ensure you get a seat, VEE. Downside is your bus journey is 20 mins longer. We once went to Ferrytoll to catch an early morning 747 at the start of the school summer holidays and it was full! Fortunately, the driver phoned for another bus and it appeared less than 15 mins later. Panic averted. 😃

Was checking out the 747 for an upcoming trip - £36 for two adult open returns, and that’s an offer. Seems somewhat overpriced. £45 for a week in the long stay car park, plus a fiver in fuel/leccy costs to drive. Given that we need to be at the airport very early, and the usual huge queue for the 747 at the airport coming home, the extra cost of driving is a no brainer

Parking booked for a weeks time at Edinburgh Airport, can`t be bothered lugging cases on and off buses.

I think it`s quite common to hike prices for any form of transport to and from airports in this and other countries, too. It must be something to do with having captive customers, similar to weddings and funerals. 10 years ago, we paid €16 each for a 30 min train journey from Fiumicino airport to Roma Termine and only €11 each (pre-booked) for a 4 hr train journey south from Rome. Getting a taxi is proportionally more expensive, too.

Getting the 747 is a no brainer for auld farts like VEE and I.... 🙂

Thanks GG - good to know they’ll put on another coach if required.

The extra 20 minutes from Halbeath is not a big deal - I need to sit down, my days of standing on terracing are history !!!

Thanks to LNER’s incompetence we had to stand from Newcastle to Edinburgh on a rail trip a couple or so years ago.

There was a suggestion about joining the bus at Inverkeithing rail station to avoid any potential queue at Ferry Toll - just as well I consulted the online timetable, the very early services don`t stop at the station !!!

The early ones stop in Chapel Place - 2 mins walk from the station.

If you`re going on the first weekend of the school holidays, that`s sound advice, VEE. Go to Halbeath to be on the safe side. If you`re going any other time, getting to Ferrytoll a bit early (10-15 mins) will ensure you`re not at the end of a long queue. You can leave the car safely parked and under cover and it`s free. 🙂
