 Flight delay compensation

I`m currently in Canada visiting my son and family. We were supposed to fly home on Monday but Air Canada cancelled our flight and asked us to agree to a re-scheduled flight on Thursday. I accepted and booked a further 3 nights in a hotel. Anyone had any experience of claiming compensation in similar circumstances? I think we`re due standard compensation of $1000 but it will cost me more than that all told.

The airline should cover your food and accommodation but I`d call them to understand if there are limits i.e. no booking a 5 star spa!

Pretty sure you should have clarified before agreeing. No guarantee of anything if you`ve actively agreed to another flight.

Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight but it might have been better to respond to the call by asking what they were offering and negotiating if need be.

Got a `phone call today and a follow-up email. Air Canada agreed to compensate us for the hotel bill plus $1000 each for the 3 day delay.

That`s a result.

Martin Lewis website has a travel Forum which includes this sort of scenario - there are numerous threads from travellers having issues getting compensation etc.

Certain airlines come up regularly as the bad guys.
